Hi Everyone,

I have finally given up my quest to find a fishing buddy with a boat or being able to ever talk my wife into getting rid of the kids, the vacations, and the RV so that we can get our own. So, I have been doing some research on Balloon and Kite fishing and have found a lot of good stuff.

I know that most of the challenges we would face is an "offshore" wind but a lot the things I have found say that is common problem and that most guys work around the wind direction issue by flying from Pier or jetties and then "tacking" the kite against the wind. Most of the fishing kites can tack as much as 30 degrees.

My question for you all is have any of you ever tried this? Would love to learn more about how you set up (or especially built) your rig. Also would love to know what type of rig you used. Did you surface fish? Did you bottom fish?

Anyway... drop me a reply, pre-construction (cleaning my work bench from the last project) is starting today!

Been wanting to try the balloon. They say with the balloon the bait skims on the top of the water and when the fish hit it it's a totally different experience. Lots of slack to be reeled in. Thought about the Queen Mary public fishing area. The wind blows off the rocks there and is a known Thresher spot might work with the wind at your back there.

Hey DR...

I have seen that public spot there before but never fished it. That actually sounds like it might be a good place to try it.

Well as soon as I get the rig set up I will let you know via PM... maybe we can meet up and give it try.
