Went out fishing aboard my 15ft aluminum skiff Duroboat “Red Drum” out in the Santa Monica Bay with Jason “jscrib”. Plan A was to bounce-ball for Halibut for 4-5 hours and the resort to Plan B (Bass fishing) if necessary.

We pounded the sand for about 10 miles and only caught 3 Bat Rays, and got 1 mystery bite that came unbutton after about 5 seconds. After no success on the Halibut, we then threw in the towel and did some Sand Bass fishing. Fortunately, we located a good size school of Sand Bass that were associated with a big bait ball. It was instant hook-up on the Bass once you located the bait school. We caught about a dozen and half Sandies up to 5.5 pounds, within about 45 minutes. Love when that happens.

All Bass were caught on both Basstrix and Big Hammer swimbaits and all were released to fight another day.

My first Sand Bass of the day.

Here I am with a nice chunky Vermilion Rockfish that I caught on Wednesday night 9/1, aboard my friend’s boat fishing out on the Rockfish grounds.

The weather was fabulous all day long and we had lots of laughs and got to pull on a lot of Bass. I can’t wait to go again. HOOK-UP!!

Till next time,
