Very nice report Ron.
Seems Lal and yourself made the right choice yesterday.
Congrats getting your Cabbie out of the way the year. How big was it if you dont' mind me asking?
When I was fishing over the weekend on the Pacific Eagle, out of Channel Islands Sportfishing, a person caught a beautiful Cabbie and it was at least 18" long. The deckie was gonna throw it back in and I stopped him and said the minimum length is 15". He said it was 22" and I had to reprimand him and get the captain involved.
The captain confirmed that I was correct and the angler was elated to say the least. Earlier the same deckie lost the same guys Sheephead cause he couldn't gaff it, after 4 tries. This thing was at least 8lbs. I felt sorry for the guy.
Well, thanks for the report and pics,
Robert

Hi murrieta angler,

Thanks. I need a Sargo, Diamond Turbot and such to take me to 25 species ..... hope it make it.

That little Cabie was only 1 1/2 pounds or so. He or she was happy to be let go .... man it did a power dive !!

It's amazing the ignorance of some guys. They make their money by cleaning legal fish .... Let's see ..... Uh .... Duh ... throwing back board money because ..... ?? Wonder if some aren't functionally illerate !! Honest !

Hi marzocchi,

Great day. Truth is .... even if the fish didn't bite it would still be a great experience. So much to see and learn on a private boat.

Hi E.A.R.G.,

As the swimmies are basically a reaction bait .... I'd not be surprised at anything being caught on one.

Hi Swank909,

Sorry and sorry guys for the late reply and even report. 4 trips in 8 days @ 2~3 hours of sleep each day makes for a tired old geezer !!

The clear with red metalflake sparkle plastics and leadheads shown are made by an angler (a garage operation) buddy and not sold in a retail outlet.

Hi Santa Fe Eric,

At first it was really frustrating watching guys fish gulp and or put trailer-trash on all sorts of off-the-wall swimmies and get hit every drop with them tied on some multi-hook, dropper-loop, 80lb test leader setups. I use my own leeching technique to get the scent out of most plastics I find I like ......from a swimming action or color combo standpoint. Some stuff like Gulp is about impossible to leech but those using anise is something that can be disapated very quickly !!
