Decide to do a last minute, super quick calico bass trip up in the BKR and check the water along the coastline. I was lucky enough to have my New York friend James join me. Plan was to hit the shallow water pinnacles for some sport coats. Dont usually make the long run up the line, but if I wanted some good calico bass fishing, it is the only way to go. Turns out all the calicos decide to change their colors to red for August. Had fun catching them in 65-75 feet of water on plastics. Then got James some deep water vermillions for dinner. Got back early and made myself breakfast then went to work. Flashback to a earlier time:

Ammm...yea so my calico pinnacle has turned into a vermillion pinnacle. Used to be excellent fishing on 3 lb+ calicos. Looks like these guys push them off and made their home on this rock. We caught about 50-60 of these guys. All on plastics in about 65-75 feet of water. All released. Fought way better than the Calicos. I had a blast catching these rojas bass. Hopefully these guys will populate and make a permanent home in the shallows.

After harassing the shallow stuff, I made a b-line to the ridge for some deepwater red snappers for James. Nobody fishes out here for rockfish, so it is WFO on these things.

Since I am all the way up the line, it is must that I stop on my barberpole rockpile. Since I got James some dinner, I need to get myself some dinner too. Got some of these big flag rockfish for my mid week taco night. I prefer the sweet taste of the barberpoles to the vermillions.

Some of the by catches were coming up with some huge bite marks. I dont know if you can make out the bite marks on these fish. Something has to be pretty big down there to try to eat rockfish this size. I need to remove whatever is down so they dont scare away the fish.

OK done...remove this guy from the quarry rock. The rockfish are safe once again.

Did one more stop before heading in. Check a old Boccacio spot to see how well it is doing after all these years. Doesnt look like it is doing very well. Only found a lone one.

Got home. Harvested some of my home grown chives and a "small" ostrich egg for breakfast. Trying to make the best of my diet and return to riding my bike.

Had a great quick adventure. Thats it. See you next time, maybe in Mexico.

cool report. Do you live on a ostrich farm or something? that egg looks huge and you say it's a "small one..." cool stuff.
