Hot day today, got on the water around 7:15 and it was allready HOT.
Worked the Atomic Buzzbait, a spinnerbait and dropshotted the Atomic Pot Bellied Shads, Got a small spinnerbait first thing in the morning, working the grassbeds, the fish were breaking on baitfish all over the place, I threw the tacklebox at them, even had a blow up on the frog.
It was dead calm and hot, I firgured let match the hatch and tied on a pot Bellied shad, dropped it down and couple seconds later lil tap tap fish on, worked about 5 fish out doing that but I kept watching the inner grassbeds were big fish would come up and blast down on bait. So I knew that if I wanted a bigger fish I'd have to get back to the blades.
I got around to the back side, put the buzzbait in a open area and watched the dark shadow come up behind the bait and blast down on it, it was the bigger fish I'd been looking for, lucky that there wasn't much grass in the shallows for the bass to tie me up in and the fish came right to the boat and right in the net, fish had a huge head but was long and skinny...
put her in the livewell and continued to cast, worked toward the end back by the end and on one cast had a very nice follower that just didn't want to commit, O'well was cool to see.
That was enough for me, headed the boat in, got the lifeguard to snap a couple of shots for me, weighed the fish and let her go, she swam off just fine, I had the livewell going on manual and the hydro air on and had throw a frozen bottled water in there to keep the fish fresh, very important on these hot days.
The fish went just over 7 on the Digital, not a giant but my PB on the buzzbait, If anyone wants to look at these baits, there a 4 blade, Plastic blade and dark skirt, and the fish lik them, www.atomiccustombaits.com they also make the potbellied shad.
If anyones looking to get out and fish half days, morning or evenings and try for one of these bigger models, email me.
