Well i decided to go out of Long beach this weekend because Newport and Davies were all chartered up. My friend i booked a half day trip out of Long Beach Marina and the count from the day before looked pretty good with 275 barracuda and 7 sand bass so we were excited. When we got to the dock there was a ton of people and we were givin assigned places on the rail. I dont care what anybody says i think it is totaly stupid to give assigned spots with numbers it should be whoever is in line fist gets the good spots or you choose your own spot. It is ridicuolus that ten 8 year olds get the very back of the boat and dont have a clue what they are doing and they are using a 5 ounce weight to fish the bottom  . My friend and i had no room to cast or anything. Anyway we got to the parking alot 30 minutes from the harbor. It was slow in the beginning than the cuda wanted to come and play. I only got one the whole day and a sand bass. I lost about 12 hooks though to the cuda. My friend got the same as me. Nobody on our side of the boat was hooking up due to no casting room :( . It was also extrmeley hard to flyline because the bait was very small and would get devoured by macs every cast. All in all it was a dissapointing trip. I dont have a problem with the boat or the captain the only problem i had was that you are assigned numbers i know some boats do it and those are the ones i avoid so i dont think i will be going out of there anytime soon. The count with 63 people was 8 Calico Bass 11 Sand Bass 145 Barracuda 6 Sculpin.

Here is my friend Griffy when we got our spot

Hi seanboi,

Good job on the fishys, report and ..... and ..... hey ! .... shrink those pics!

Seriously, you might consider using the photo-editor that comes with Windows and trim your pics, then set resolution at 150ppi, height at 1.77 inches (width will follow), and save as a jpeg or jpg. They sould appear as they do in my reports if you use a free photo cashe site. Too small ?? ... up the 1.77 a little.

Again .... thanks,

JapanRon

thanks for the report....but something bugs me....who cares how old you are for what spots you get? The comment about who gets in line first didnt make sense, cuzz thats how it DOES work....first people in line with reservations get their choice of spots.....unless something has changed down there that i am not aware of.......word of advice bro...if you absolutely have to go fishing on a crowded day, you should FISH THE BOW.... thats what i do when the cuda are biting, i actually get a bow number, of get a stern spot if you can, then jam to the bow and set your rod on one of the spots, as long as its not assigned..peace man

I agree with ghetto dad......avoid the tangles and hassle and hop to the bow and chuck the iron. Ever notice the captain or crew rackin em up fishing off the bow.

Hi again seanboi,

Ya ... I wasn't gonna go off on that one but since .... our very own square-dealin' ghetto dad (he runs a very tight and fair ticket counter operation over at LBSF) brought up the issue.

I'm wondering what the deal was on the fare/tickets/numbers. I suspect that someone was allowed to buy a bunch of tickets ... especially for the kids (kids fish or free w/adult promo). Normally you can't just be at the head of the line and then buy a block of tickets. That's what I suspect happened.

I suspect that you just were at the right place and the wrong time!! and that is not their regular practice. :D I'll try to find out tomorrow cuz I've got an inquiring mind.

ghetto dad .... shhhhhhhh .... are you in to inviting guys up to your home spot now??? j/k See you soon.

Ghettodad,

That was the first thing on my friend and I's mind to go to the bow. but when we got up there we got kicked out because the people who had there number wanted it and we tried to trade. It just wasnt a great trip and im used to Newport Landing and Davies style of buying your ticket then waiting to see what spot you can grab. And no we both caught a sand bass and a cuda each.

Next time use them elbows and get your spots. LOL.
Just kidding. I feel you man crowded boats aren't fun
and i've been on boats where the sames has happened to me.
The number systems just dont work. You get there early and some how
all the good spots are taken already. I guess that why you have to get
in good with the landings. You've caught some fish and it was a half day.
Not bad for 65 anglers. I was about to go on that trip also but for some reason i headed some where else.

Good luck nex time.
