Hello all,
I thought that I’d post a little introduction to a lure company out of Kauai, HI. The company is called Mark White Lures, and Mark of MW Lures is a lure maker who has been making lures for over 10 years. Mark makes surface plugs for freshwater and inshore as well as trolling lures for pelagic fishing. The amazing thing about Mark White Lures is that they are made completely out of ceramic. The trolling heads are made out of ceramic as well. Mark has worked with ceramic engineers and these lures are very tuff, I can personally attest that it takes a lot to even chip one of his lures (in my experience a lot more than plastic and wood). Another great thing about MW Lures is the company has great customer service and the lures come with a lifetime guarantee. Below are 2 pics of the trolling heads and surface plugs line up.

Surface Plugs

Another amazing thing about these lures is that Mark has worked on some ingenious ideas to make his lures more productive. The surface plugs have some amazing action on the top and created a lot of disturbance. Mark also has a patent pending for his “textured belly trolling heads.” These trolling heads create additional disturbance and vibration in the water. All Mark White Lures whether trolling or surface plugs come in a variety of colors and are hand painted.
I personally have been using the surface plugs for a little over a year now when a friend on vacation back in Hawaii sent me one. I can tell you they have worked for everything from bass (fresh and salt) to halibut in the surf, even striper at the aqueduct. Secondly MW surface plugs are quick sinking so they can be worked anyway, on the surface or deeper down. Some users of MW lures have even used them on the troll for salmon in Alaska (pic below). Lastly if you ever try one of these lures you will be amazed at how heavy they are for their size. This makes the surface plugs excellent casters, wind is no problem for me.
On Mark White’s website you can take a look at all of the lures, prices, and Mark’s story which is quite interesting on how he got into lure making. Mark also records a lot of his fishing adventures and uses youtube to share them. He has some amazing videos under his user name “whiteykauai.” He catches peacock and small mouth bass on Kauai’s interior streams, all the way to ulua and papio in Fiji. Below are some of the pics of fish that Mark White lures have caught. Enjoy!
