Fished the long jetty by the ocean institute. Caught several small bass and a type of perch I need help identifying. As it got dark, we got a few small leopard sharks and a decent horn shark. Does anyone know what type of perch this is?2489324894

Black Croaker. uncommon.

thats a species I have only caught ONCE. They like deeper water than our other croakers.

Thanks for the ID. After looking it up, you guys are right about the black croaker. It was a good night with two firsts, the horn shark and the black croaker.

Nice catch, the jetty is pretty good but when you get a big ray is a little difficult climbing around on those rocks, no to mention unsafe after a few beers. That horn shark is pretty cool looking. Glad you got the photo opp.

X3 that things wicked, I saw a older Mexican cat I talked to for a while pull up those. Said he was born and raised by the ocean and learned from it. He couldnt have been lying I saw him pull up 4 in about 15 min all over 11 inch, just little monsters on fighting, and that was pretty thick line 20lb I think he said lol...
