Hey Ron, 61 to 64 degrees, What the heck ? Injun Summer Hail Mary ?

June gloom in August? Sweaters in the mornings and evenings?

Last week was the Newport Beach Jr. Lifeguard swim. The swim had been cut down from a mile to a half-mile because of 55-degree water temperatures. In the end, six kids were treated for hypothermia.

"We normally have an uphill current bringing us warm water from down south, " said Don Ashley of Pierpoint Fishing in Long Beach. "Lately, we have had a downhill current bring us cold water from up north."

The encouraging thing is that so many fish are being seen. On Wednesday, skipper Ryan Carino from the half-day boat Southern Cal out of Pierpoint Landing saw acres and acres of barracuda just a few miles from Angels Gate. Once again,

the fish didn't want to bite, but at least they are here
