Went hunting for shore based Bonito and decided to go old school.

Tried a clear bubble 1/2 full of water 5' 4-lb flouro leader to a blue/white Bonito feather.

1 1/2 after work for no bites http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y127/babeluvspike/loser.jpg

Tried different speeds, big splash, little bumps. Had the whole jetty for myself at Joes in Redondo.

Later on was a giant school of bait with pelicans and gulls at the entrance of the harbor. Thought about running the whole breakwall to get to them, yah right :Rolls Eyes:
Then thought about trying Horsehoe Pier to get in range but decided to pass.

Any advice on old school bubble bonito splashing ?

IMO a krocodile is better for this.

Fishermen arent so much stupid as stubborn (excluding the morons). I'll second Smokehound, Krocodiles are the way to roll :P

good luck.... I like the old school attack, though I gave that up after busting 3 bubbles on those rocks last month. time. anyone know how fast of a retrieve the bonitas like? I heard it is suppose to be pretty fast. I ask because a couple of years ago, I came back from a boat trip into RB Marina and there were some bonitas and macks by the docks. I fly lined an anchovy but the bonita just swam up to it and turned away, but the macks had no issues with the chovy and took the bait.

No advice since I have not worked them since I was a teen below the SG River Powerplant in the 70's. But I do have about 10 of so of the Blue/White Feathers myself stored away for the nostalgia!

Love the Suit!

Thats a good thing for sport fishermen and not meat fishermen.

Been tossing Krocs. Got a 2" chrome/blue, 3" chrome/blue, 3" chrome/green stripes.
Only 1 Bonito landed on a Kastmaster.

Yesterday, 1/2 hour on the Kastmaster then Kroc.

Went back to the bubble for a first cast explosion but no hookup.
Then a hour of casting till a major 2 second drag ripper but came off.

Set up a Sabiki Style rig. The locals at the pier use 5 hooks on a line, and they seem to have better luck the us on the bubble and krocs. Even though we see them boil on the live bait, they attack the feathers at a deeper depth.
