As part of my summer trip this year, I spent two days in a cabin in North Eastern Pennsylvania. A creak ran through the property and offered some completely private stream fishing.

I fished Pine Creak for two days and was amazed by how clear the water was. You could see to the bottom from one side to the other. Standing in the middle of the creek, I watched carp, trout, crappie, and smallmouth bass swim past. I was able to place the bait in locations and watch the smallies swim up and take it. It was a blast watching the entire fight of the fish in water that clear.

In two afternoons, I was able to pull in 13 smallies and 13 crappie. I didn’t fish for the trout because I was after the bass this trip. I did come across a cold water pocket as I was walking up stream. There had to be at least 30 trout in this hole where an underground creek flowed into the one I was fishing (these were nice sized trout as well). You could actually feel the cold water in the spot where the underground creak flowed in.

At the end of the fishing day, it was back to the cabin to cook dinner over an open fire with my wife. Fishing in those conditions made me realize how hard it is to find that kind of pristine fishing here in California. The spots do exist, but they are becoming harder to find.
