Was out at Fairmount yesterday evening and fished till dark for nada. Anyone know the hot setup for bass or crappie out there? I'm not one for soaking bait, I prefer to walk the lake and toss lures and jigs. Any help is appreciated.

Like Steve said ...light line, nothing more than a 1/8 out weight. They like watermelon and Green pumpkin baits but they also like Purple worms too. Work the tree lines and any structure. They are there but they spook easily.

24774I was there yesterday and my fishing buddy had a 4 lb bass that took his catfish bait as he reeled it in. LMB have to be the dumbest fish.

I'm used 2 and 4 lb test with very little weight and threw every color I had. Apparently I need to hit the tackle shop for more variety. Thanks for the tips!

I must say, the purple worm was a good tip. All the others fishermen who are already thereeither have worms or white/chartreuse buzz/spinners

Here are some tips when fishing lakes such as Fairmount Park. Remember, dirty water clarity means you need to use baits the fish can see better, so that means darker (black, brown, purple, dark green), and extremely brighter baits (like fire tiger, chartreuse, pink, white).

Bass Fishing would be prime to use:
*6-8lb. flourcarbon line (Berkeley Vanish @ Walmart for $6)
*YUM Dinger or Senkos in Watermelon & Green Pumpkin
*Roboworms of all colors on a drop shot
*Roadrunner jigs

Panfish fishing would be prime to use:
*2-4lb. test flourocarbon line (Berkeley Vanish @ Walmart for $5)
*Mealworms, nightcrawlers, small creature baits
*Mini-worms on dropshot with bobber
*Mini-jigs
*USE VERY SMALL HOOKS

Carp fishing would be prime if you use:
*15-20lb. test monofilament line (Bass Pro Shop Excel @ BPS for $15)
*Cut bait
*Dough balls
*USE VERY STRONG HOOKS

Catfish fishing would be prime to use:
*10-14lb. test flourcarbon line (Berkeley Vanish @ Walmart for $6-12)
*Cut bait like Mackerel, Shrimp, Anchovies, any fish really would work if cut up and put on a hook with a weight.

Well I know that this stuff works, so just put together what you can fish the best.

I catch mine on 8lbs Green Maxima...that works well and you can set the hook with no problem.

I used to use 6 lb test. I had way more strikes, but lost way too many good fish in the branches. So, I moved up to 8 and I did better, but I still have the occasional bass break me off in the underwater snags. I use 10 now, but have a reel spooled with 8 that I use where I know there are not any major branches, fallen tree limbs or roots. A lighter line will give your bait much better action and allow it to sink more natural-like.

Yeah, I use 12lb. Flourocarbon, fishmounter.

Vanish sucks!

Vanish is affordable and works great! I land fish all the time with it on at DVL, and of course here at Fairmount Park.

There is, however, better flourocarbon line out there of course. Berkeley Vanish is the bottom grade, that is why it is at Walmart!

+1

Dont over look the Berkley Proffesional Grade Florocarbon, my favorite line for trout and bass fishing.

If you went today....you'd be the only tweeker there.

Fairmount park is such a lovely place. Beautiful waterfalls, crystal clear water, and they have volunteers from the community who choose wake up bright early every day just to clean the park. Oh, I almost failed to bring up the men's wrestling club that meet up in the rosegarden. Yes Fairmount is the place to be!

Oh Danny boy don't be so hard on that park. But that is kind of funny stuff you said, it's a ok place on the lake. Do you still go there ? The tweekers are in the park.
