Hmmm, let' see,
Continental Breakfast - $5 ?
Fishing pass (1) - $22
Private Launch - $11
Steak lunch - $15 ?
goodie bag - $10
raffle ticket - ?
This equals round about $63
And it cost $150?
And all this to catch trout with a $17 2nd limit pass?
Call me crazy, but I'll wait the extra day and save $118.

You've got your numbers wrong. Here is a more realistic breakdown.

Fishing Pass - $22
Boat Rental - $55
Continental Breakfast - $10
Steak Lunch - $15
Goodie Bag - ??? (but realistically it will probably be worth more than $10)
Raffle Ticket - $1

Total - well over $100

Add in the fact you get to beat all the crowds. Dont know if you've ever fished opening day at the Vine, or another lake on an opening day, but it can be a zoo! This is an event, not just any normal day of fishing. With everyone eating breakfast and lunch together im sure everyone will be chatting it up with their favorite fishing stories and just having a good ol' time. You can save a few bucks (and I mean a few), and camp outside Thurs night, while im inside catching fish, eating good food, and hanging with everyone.

TS

PS - My God!!!!! Did you see the pics of the steaks!!!!! Cant wait to sink my teeth into one of those bad boys.

Taper Steve you are getting closer I fished it last year with my 16 year old son and he ate 2 or 3 steaks (you can do that when your sixteen and 6'2") anyways we recieved several jars of bait, a years subscription to WON. massive lures , line, hooks and several other Items and we had a great time they really went all out it was a great time. If someone dosen't feel like fishing it don't do it, but just because you don't want to spend the money dosen't mean it's not worth it. It was sure nice not worrying about getting tangled up with people that didn't want to spend the money. The way I look at it Irvine really treated us very good. I will probably be there this year also and just like every other fishing trip and tournament nobody makes you do it. If you really want your moneys worth of fish go buy your fish at the super market. It's really about more than the fish (fish are just a bonus), As for me I appreciate what Irvine is doing and if my schedule works I will be there. Hope to fish with some of you there.

Thanks Irvine Lake for all you do.

I know how much Dana loved attending this VIP day. Me thinks I am going to go........anybody wanna share my boat? I want first crack at those beauties......The price isn't bad, when I go on a charter the cost is about the same plus i have to pay extra for food and fish cleaning as well as tips. Daniella, save me a spot, i'll be calling you to set up the resies......OFG

If you want to see the most unbelievable action you can then come to it, if you dont and your complaining about the money then don't show up and don't put it down. Plain and simple. I had the most amazing day last year and to top it off Daniella caught her monster on our boat while taking a short break. Simply awesome!!!!!

Guess you put me in my place, huh?
Please , waste your money anyway you see fit.
If this ($150 trout fishing) is the most unbelievable action you've seen then I'm sorry but to each his own.

Dana and I fished this last year and had a great time! Met some great people (Big Daddy) and just enjoyed our day. Dr. Hook was rockin it on the water and at the cleaning station. Definitely worth coming out for. I believe webmaster was lurking around also. I was just shocked Daniella caught that huge fish in a WHITE sweater and came away clean!

Apples & oranges my friend. Tuna vs Trout Hmmmmm, I wonder which fish is REALLY worth $150 to get a shot at catching. Comparing Irvine Lake fishing to a tuna charter (tuna trip - the price is basically the same all year) is one of the craziest things I've read. The day after VIP I can spend $22 and get the same shot at a trout that doesn't fight or pull line.

Like you said, some people like oranges and some people like apples, then theres people like me who love both.

I like to fish for trout as much as the next person (and I'm looking forward to the season - especially after such a crappy offshore season), but saying $150 to fish for TROUT is the same as spending $150 to fish for tuna is completely different (hence the apples & oranges comment).

I don't want to start a pissing contest about the price to fish the VIP day. For some reason when I read "olfishergal's" comment I felt compelled to comment (don't know why, it's been a long time since I've posted here). I personally would never pay that money to fish for trout. Obviously there are a lot of people (especially on this board) who would & will pay that kind of money to fish for trout.

Good luck to all fishing the VIP (Very Impatient People willing to pay $150 instead of waiting 24 more hours) Day.

I'm with StougtyRods on this one TaperSteve. You can't compare catching 30 lb. tuna with 3 lb. trout.

there is no reason to be insultive. i enjoy the lake, and think for myself anyway, i don't have to fight the crowd and *******'s who don't know how to behave
at a pay lake. my comparison has nothing to do with the fish.........i enjoy all type of fishing, probably some you never tried but like you said its apples and oranges.
i have paid a couple grand to fish for tuna on a long haul trip, traveled around the world for the big models, so of course no comparison. but, i am happy to watch the fools line up to catch a few trout
while i get the joy of having a really nice day fishing without irritation...........i treat myself well, i deserve it. have a nice day

I agree ofg. The people waiting out in that line are dedicated, but as we are seeing them while we are out on the lake, we are not only dedicated but the hardcore reliable fisherman that have the lakes back. Like you said it's a good way to say thank you while they do the same for us. I hope to see you all there!

OK Chris, I won't be able to make it this year. The Federal Constitution says that a drug dealing heroin addict is entitled to a jury of his peers. Today, the California court system in Santa Ana, decided that I was a drug dealing heroin addict's peer. I'm not adding this to my resume.

$150 is a small price to pay to make new friends and fish with a great group of people (t57). If it's any thing like the trip to zuma I would love to be there. As for $150 for a tune trip that sounds like a deal. Keep in mind some people won't even hook up on a tuna ($150 boat ride). And now there pissed and hungry, give me my steak.

Just signed up on Friday. This will be my first VIP day. Plan to take out a boat and try multiple areas so I will know were to fish with my float tube this season.

Spoke with some of my other fishing buddies but they all say "too much $". But they will be waiting in line while we are fishing (and eating steak).

I missed all those tributes to Dana and know Team 57 will be here at this event. It will give me a chance to "talk story" with my Dana tales.

Go Team 57...

After the terrible offshore season this past year I've been dying to get on some fish. Was talking with my GF this past weekend who asked me to take her fishing. Was thinking about hitting the Vine or going to Corona for my first time.

For those of you who've done this before, is the bite usually hot with this many fresh plants? Though I do think it's steep I'd be willing to pay the $150, and I'm a bit more tempted to do the Vine just because I've done it so many times before and I think I know what I'm doing out there.
I basically don't want to spend the money and have my GF either not catch or have myself look foolish in front of her ;).

VIP Day sold out earlier this week.

The bite @ the Vine should be WFO all weekend long!

I'd go Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
