Living in Baldwin Park, I can reach several city lakes within ten minutes: Peck Road Park Lake, Legg Lake, Santa Fe Dam, the Pud and the Downey Wilderness Park Lake.

This morning I decided to take the pup to Legg Lake for our morning walk.
We should have gone somewhere else ... that place should be declared a public health hazard.

We walked to the north-western corner of the lake, to see what the lake looks like.
This is the northern lake, the one closest to the 60 freeway.
Thought I might return later on with a rod, in case things look good.
It ain't happening.

The water is dirty, it stinks, full of junk, and here are some pics of the dead fish on the shore, and all of these shot within a 20 yard stretch. Including the remains of a turtle.
I had no real camera with me, so I had to rely on cell phone pics.

I'll check out the place in six months or so.

Dude how many dead cats did you see? Whenever I go I usually see dead cats, snails, turtles, and the occasional duck. Sad to see all that, but it isn't surprising seeing as how the lake looks like someone who couldn't make it to restroom decided to make a pit stop.

So, in other words, its business as usual at the ole Legg.

Atleast u didnt see any marranos wading in the shallows like i did last time. And their parents? Just chilling there, bumpin' the oldies, not realizing their kid is probably stepping on a dirty needle.

summer madness. i started hitting this lake up last fall, and i can say it was pleasant to fish. i caught some nice fall bass out of there. but it appears that a combination of the summer crowd and budget cuts made this lake/park undesirable to be at.

shameful

No.
No private vessels of any kind, and no body contact with the water.
You wouldn't want your body to touch that water anyhow ...

All those dead cats must have been caused by all the careless derby fishers last weekend. :Crying:

I think the oil runoff comes from the damn rc boats at the north lake. Those things are noisy as hell, i hate the freakin things. Are they so popular the city has to allow them on the lake. I notice them at lake balboa too. Those things produce air, water, and noise pollution why are they tolerated? And they ban people from smoking, go figure!

BTW, I'm at legg once every two weeks and started noticing the runoff or whatever it is about a month ago. The water was "RELATIVELY" clean before then.

I went out today to check out the Legg since I consider it my home lake.
I caught my pb bass here back in April and I think it is an excellent fishery at times.
Water quality was dirt brown. It was a lot clearer a week ago, and I actually caught a nice 3 lb'er not long ago.
Today I worked my Legg lake special worm around the entire middle lake for no bites.
Lots of poachers hitting the lake for sunfish hard, even those are getting scarce.
The lake is on a definite downswing but I'm sure it will rebound in a few weeks.

Legg Lakes have the potential to be great fishing lakes, if half the people didnt use them as poaching grounds, and the other half didnt use the park as a toilet and trash can...

Oh, and lets not forget the geniuses that feed the waterfowl, and create the nice soup that is the warm lake water and bird feces...

They should make spawning areas in the middle of the park lakes, so the fish dont all bed on the shoreline..

that way, more big fish will survive the spawns.

I was there yesterday for a bit,
I walked around the north lake right past the spot those pics were taken, still dirty as always, nothing changes.
Ran into larry doing on of his custom wraps, sweet job too...after that walked the middle lake for a 3lber.
On my way back to the truck i found a huge school of shad, but it was right in front of the kids bath tub so trying to fish with 20 kids splashing and throwing rocks and screaming was tough. There are shad everywhere.
Got me a lil dink and went home., Tons of bluegillers fishing the lake with tulies covering alot of shoreline.

Whenever you guys are ready lets set up a legg lake tourney.

still there and after many times of me asking them to stop jumping in the lake and messing up my fishing,
that never works, i just left ....argh!!

I second that Danny.,.,

You said it all right here,,,,,this is the problem

They should make spawning areas in the middle of the park lakes, so the fish dont all bed on the shoreline..that way, more big fish will survive the spawns.

Each lake has 2 or 3 nice sized islands in the middle and i know there are chunky bass living on them..

You think you got it all, come out here to Seccombe Lake in San Bernardino where you can fish, score dope and meet a hooker in 10 to 15 minutes maximum. Guarunteed.
