My Uncle Dennis and I decided to fish the Long Beach Break Wall even though we had a long day of fishing and hiking the San Gabriel River the day before and our feet were killing us (need to get some better hiking shoes). So we decided to take it easy and sleep in so we didn't get on the water until around 9:30 a.m. and the high tide was at 10:00 a.m. So we got to our spot and the wind was already blowing at about 10-15 mph with a few gusts up to 20 mph with what looked like a mix of West and South swells at 3-4 feet at about 10 seconds apart. The bass started biting right away they were all average size Calicos and a few Sandies and the mackerel were coming through in schools and were jumping on all sides and it looked like it was going to be wide open all day, but the bite only lasted a couple of hours and then everything shut down until we were getting ready to head in and I was throwing all our live bait over so we could have an empty bait tank for the ride in then I guess all the chum brought them back up and it was too late. All fish were released all the bass and ling cod were caught on live anchovies and the mackerel were caught on a green and white fly. Sorry no pics, but we all know what 12-16 inch Calicos look like.
Final count:
Dennis:
10+ Calicos
3 Sandies
1 Small White Sea Bass
1 small Ling Cod
Me:
10+ Calicos
7 Mackerel
