CPR all fish, the hali were far undersized anyways, let em go to catch later.


Went out to Newport with my cousin after seeing BGH and the boys pull in a nice catch yesterday. Got there around 8:30/9:00 AM, got to Davey's Locker and bought some gulp swimbait/jerkbait.


Fished along the beach, staying off the private docks. Got to Edgewater and caught the small hali's in the channel there.

Fun day, we missed the tide coming in and only got to fish it going out, so I think we did decently. First time using lures and not bait'n'wait-ing in saltwater.

Nothing like fishing plastics for the first time in the salt, can be very rewarding. Thats a nice spot you're in when the tides moving. In the future though you dont want to hold the fish up by his gills if you're going to release it, just suspend him with one hand below his head and the other by the tail, helps ensure he grows into a legal for you to catch again :P

Ah, didnt know about the gills thing. We were pretty gentle over all, we didnt want to squeeze their bellies since theyre super flat anyways...

Next time we'll suspend them

The North side of the channel is killer too, during a high tide.
