Hello All-
Had to do some errands and family things first thing in the late morning/early afternoon...I was talking with FA and we were going to fish/meet at the Vine as soon as we both got finished with our runs. I got to the at 12.30pm, and FA had to babysit Jacob so he was out- FA said the trollmiester was out there doing the "trolltoon" slay biz (tried to phone ya up, but Daniella said you had just left...cooool-).
Got on the water just a bit before 1pm, and started the troll...Got a hit down the center, but no takers within the first 1/2 hour of letting my lines out- continued onward (w/no fishfinder-...) just using some experience of the years trolling with the best- first hookup at about 1.45pm, a nice 1 1/5 rainbow on the leadcore. After getting the lure out of the Bow's mouth- i heard my other rod go off, as the drags said zzZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzz by then i looked up and I was aiming for a buoy (by 2pm the wnd had already been blowing...) I grabbed the rod and the boat and turned away, and fought the next fish in- Another rainbow with really nice colors again-.
Well after about 2-3pm i had no more bites, so i started doing a few runs around the other part of the lake, which was much deeper, at the same time i switched up a few lures to see if i could get some bites...nada.
I had time for one more run or more...I decided to run the "muskyman" (lol)run, and dropped one of my lures down a few colors...after settig the drags, i started- i'd say 15minutes, thinking patrol was going to come and close the lake soon... and the drags sing ZzzzZZZZZZZZZZZz woke me up instantly- set the hook on the lead (5.5 colors) and it was on...this one zigged, and stuck..i thought to myself, this one feels like another sized LMB... at least 3-5lbs, but it started runnin' sideways out the back towards musky's tree...the boat was already towards the center of the lake and i brought lead in...man- got it close, and one of the first initial shots of the side view...A "steelhead"...and it darted down...almst another color of lead...that run felt like a dvl holdover of old...i fought it to the net borrowed from "orlando" thanks...and it almost popped out...set it up...a sweet 3.7lb steelhead, and the fresh colors were awesome, it even spat out some shad!...I took some quick cel shots, and noticed the tail growth on the steelhead (photo below)... The Vine trout holdovers can happen...
-just then Jerry came and i headed in- A fun afternoon bite, with a great topping of a 3.7lb steelie in late July~!
