View Full Version : Crappie at Fairmount Park

The Panfish bite is wide open at Fairmount Park during the hot afternoons and evenings. Even though the fish are small, they are still fun to catch, and there are some very small Bass as well. I came across a shocker, however, and found this Crappie in Lake Evans!

I was pleased to see it because it is very hopeful knowing Crappie are in the Lakes. Has anyone ever caught Crappie there?

I took one of my friends early in the morning before the day got started while it was cool outside, and I picked up a nice 1.5lb Bass. It was my friend's first time fishing too, so it was a great experience teaching him how to cast, retrieve, set the hook, bait selection, etc. The algae is growing rapidly because of the summer weather, so there is more shadow and cover for fish. The most intriguing thing was the massive amount of carp on the West side of Lake Evans! This summer should be pretty good because the water is clearing up on the West side of Lake Evans.

How are all of you "Fairmount Park Fishermen" doing this summer?

Thanks Danny300! I did not know "that species" was in the Lake! Are your Crappie generally the size of your hand or more like the size in my picture?

I caught a small bass there on Wed. I was only there for a little while. I hardly ever get the skunk there now. I knew they had crappie but I always just fish bass.

you can find crappie at tri-city-park too. Pretty big ones at that.

There has been a pretty good crappie bite now for a couple of years. Some of these fish are up in the 1 to 2 lb range, 13 to 15 inches. The best area is at the dock where the two lakes come together under the road, and in the evening before dark with tiny white tube jigs on 2 lb test line has been the best lure and line size. I like fishing without a bobber, some like using one up about 3-4 feet.

Lake Gregory is infested with small crappie like that.

Yeah Gregory has been like that since the 1970s. Nothing but small crappies. I know if there is not enough food, crappies, like Bluegills can become stunted. That's why it's good to keep some to eat. It's really hard to hurt a crappie and Bluegill fishery by keeping a few fish once in a while. They lay millions of eggs every time they spawn.

When you make a reply.. see that little button to the right of the one shaped like the earth?

thats for you to attach a pic.

OR you can try Photobucket (better anyway, since it doesnt place strain on FNN's storage.)

Went there from 6:30-8:30 pm last night, chatted with an older fellow who was fishing with a red bare hook. Talked for a while, and then I gave him some trout dough and he ended up with a little bluegill from the lillypads!

I've caught all my bigger bass in the cooler springtime. From Feb on up until about the beginning of June, when the big carp start spawning and splashing in the trees. But you just never know when a toad will take a grab at your bait. Hey that would be a "bassgrabber"! Ha!

Carpanglerdude,

You need to come out to FMP and hit up the Bass fishing! It is actually really good in the early morning (5-7am) and late evenings (6:30-8:30pm). I will keep up the reports as long as I have time to do it, you got it!
