Question about Open party boat for 7-22-10 out of Long beach or Newport

Im not really a big ocean fishing guy so I could use a little advise. I was looking to go on a 1/2 or 3/4 day open party boat trip this Thursday either out of Newport or Long beach thing is Im wondering what would be best right now? I've been reading the bass bite has been good but I was really hoping to land my 1st YT. So beggers cant be choosers as long as I get a god trip I'll be happy. So can anyone spare some advise? Last time I fished out of Newport & got the skunk...no keepers. Thanks.

Newport would be my choice, even though Long Beach is closer for me. It's a shorter run to the Huntington Flats where the sand bass and barracuda are biting.

If you really want a chance at a yellowtail your best bet would be to get on AT LEAST a 3/4 day trip or longer to Catalina or SCI would be your best bet. There is the possibility of catching a yellowtail on a 1/2 day boat but it's rare.
