I went fairly often with my Father as a child and was wondering if there are any that still operate in SoCal today. I read online that they died out in 98’ but was wondering if there are any that may have started back up or if there is something available these days that would provide a similar experience to a barge. Thanks for any info, and I apologize if this has been asked before.

Nope. All of the barges that use to be in So Cal are no longer in operation. I remember good times on the barges in Belmont and Redondo. The last barge closed in 1998 and it was the Isle of Redondo. Most likely Barge fishing is a thing of the past now with the availability of 1/2, 3/4, overnight, multi-day boats filling in the gap where they can go and look for the fish instead of hoping they will come to you.

My kids used to love the Redondo Barge. We all had a fun day when we went....

Sad to see them go.........

This is a great book on the subject. Lots of cool old pictures of the barges and the fish people caught back in the day.
