Today's trip was with Ron and Danny. Danny is visiting from Texas and really wanted to sample the bass fishing in California. Danny fishes a lot of huge lakes in Texas, so fishing our little pond must have felt strange to him. And besides, where he fishes, they have gators.
Today the fish shifted from the reaction baits, to plastics. They threw cranks, spinnerbaits, jerbaits, and topwater, but no luck today. Only one fish was caught on a crank today, and that was by Danny, on the Ima Shaker.
The water temperature jumped from 74 to 80.5 in just a couple of days. Even with the rising temps, they were still pulling fish off the banks with their plastics. We metered a lot of deep water fish, but we stuck to the shallow stuff. Oh and the air temperature was well over 100 degrees today.
I set up both guys with Senko's, and Danny was on a fish right away. And then another, and still another. Ron said the hell with this, and he broke out a 4 inch worm, fished on a Texas rig. He pretty much dominated from here on out. He caught 4 fish to every one of Danny's.
The quality was decent for Ron as well. He nailed a couple of fish that were in the 3#, to the 3.5# range, and then he nailed one that was around 6#. He dragged this fish from deep in the timber. I did not think he would get her out, but he did. Nice job Ron!
