I tryed starting my inboard engine today, but the only thing I heard was the stater spinning, im thinking the the starter gear that turns the flywheel on the engine is damaged. The engine did turn at times..

Also, in order to lower the tilt/trim does the engine has to be running or can it be operated without the engine off? Tryed lowering the tilt/trim with the engine off, ignition on but all i heard were the solenoids clicking..

What do you guys think, Need help...

Thanks,

Not sure on the starter, but you may have guessed it. Try pulling the starter off if it's not too much trouble and take a look. Might be a pain, I know there isn't much room to access my starter.

Your tilt/trim should work without the engine started. Time to check all your electrical connections.

How's your battery, fully charged and testing good?

Try giving the starter a couple smacks with a mallet.
Sounds like it is not kicking in (frozen).
As Dixon said also sounds low on current. Try jumping the starter with a small screwdriver from the big + post to the small ignition post next to it.

ok, im taking my battery to autozone so that they can charge and test it for me... Is there a chance the hydraulic pump went out?

I tryed removing the starter but theres one bolt under it thats kicking my ***, Im going to bring my air rachet from work today, hopefully its easier with that..

Thanks for ur feedback guys

Go with one thing at a time. Make sure the battery is good before you do anything else.

Spray some lubricant on the gear's shaft of the starter. Sometimes the gear won't engage the fly wheel because it may be sticking on the shaft.

So I tested and charged my battery, Battery test came out okay.. My next step is to check the outdrive hydraulic pump to make sure im getting volatge. I was also told i could get that hydraulic pump rebuild to save some cash..

I finally removed the stater, I inspected the flywheel for any damages and didnt find any at this time. So my next step it to take the starter to get it checked out by a small shop in san fernnado.

But since this boat was a gift and sat for about 4 yrs I want to get the engine going to make sure its worth me investing into it..
