I was up in Truckee this weekend and was able to get in a few hours. After some advice from brother-in-law (lives up there) and the owner (fly-fisherman) of the general store just down the road from Boca, I tried my luck in a couple of coves just west of the dam.

The first morning I was out from 7am to 10am. It has been quite a few years since I have been freshwater fishing so it took some time for me to get act together. After another trip to the store I was settled on a small treble with a worm and marshmallow at the end of an 18" leader fishing off the bottom. I got robbed once with that setup but that's all.

The next morning I was out from 6am to 8am. This time I tried fishing just below the surface with a small bobber, a whole worm on a single hook. The best I could do was watch an ambitious baby trout chase my worm to the beach on several occasions. I think the varmint managed to grab half of one worm.

I got skunked unfortunately but the weather was great as well as the views.

As soon as the sun broke over the mountain or through the clouds in the morning, around 7, the fish were very active on the surface. There was a good amount of activity along the beaches within casting distance, but for whatever reason I could not catch a fish to save my life. Per what was suggested to me I tried nightcrawlers and a yellow panther marten, with no success. I was comforted little by the owner and my brother-in-law telling me they both were having a tough time this year. The few hours I was there I only saw a couple people pull in fish.

A couple notes about the lake: where I was at the bottom was very rocky. My small victory was that I only lost one hook. A few skiers and wakeboarders start chewing up the surface around 8/9 and it only gets worse. Several came within 50-60 yards of the beach on many occasions.

Instead of pictures of keepers here are a couple cool pictures I took.
