seen a guy pull up a skate when we got there, caught a bunch of what i think are smelt but im a noob saltwater angler so not positive, and seen a lady pull up a tiny halibut, like 3-4 inches long.. super overcast and as soon as that cleared up bam windy as all hell so called it.. was still fun

Stopped by after work on sat and some dude with a red Wilmington hat landed a 5 lb sheephead off the rocks by the SW lagoon.
Did the smelt look like this one below? The tiny halibut could have been a Sand Dab.

yeah same silver fish, but the hali was a true hali i gave it a good look over cause i wasnt sure from the first distant look,, could have been a flounder or dab but closer inspection proved hali, i was suprised tried to snap a pic but the lady tossed it back just as i said "can i"... couldnt even finish asking if i could take a pic.. i definately need to do more saltwater fishing, love it just soooo new to it,, growing up the ol man just told us to throw chovies on and soak em while he threw lures and sandcrabs, caught a octopus, sting ray, and a few others not bad compaired to my last two trips "over 14 years after the old trips"
