Hey all! My first report.

I have been poking around here for about a month now and I finally was able to drop a line in the water this past weekend.

Our group had 9 people total with only a couple of us having any fishing experience (albeit from years ago) at all. We rented 3 skiffs and stayed mostly along the jetties and just inside of them. I caught a small bass (I think, see pic) on a red minijig and a couple others caught 2 larger bass using frozen squid. See the pic below for the other fish that was caught on squid, but I don't know what it is.

We had some "reported" bites, and even a broken line (pole was setup with really light line), but after the marine layer burned off around 11 all the action died, except for one catch.

I tried a variety of artificial baits in different colors with no success. Not sure if I was using the baits right or if we were in the wrong spot, but I still enjoyed myself. Anyway, a couple photos:

Looks like a Sand Bass to me :P

You should of asked for some pointers or tips before renting 3 skiffs! Expeeeeeensive

You did manage to beat the skunk, thats what matters. Keep it up and there's a 3 or 4lb'er in your future

Thanks!

Yeah the price of the skiffs is up there but splitting it between a bunch of people makes the pricing easier to deal with. I will definitely ask for some pointers next time out.

Welcome aboard!!

The first small fish is a Barred Sand Bass (like Alex said).

The second one is hard to see. was it darker with spots? If so that is a Spotted Bay Bass.

I took a non-fishing buddy out Wed 6-30 and the bite wasnt to bad...
Big fish of the day = Halibut --->

You can use a lot of freshwater baits and techniques for the bass & halibut in NPH..
Dont be afraid to change up and try new things.

Also Structure is a good place to fish. All the Docks, under & around boats, pilings, rocks, eel grass etc etc...
