I went out the 15th and came back on the 18th. We went about 50 miles southwest of Point Loma. The fishing was slow. We would get a jig strike and no fish would follow. We were scratchin fish all three days, what a disappointment. Then come to find out that they would not clean our fish because we were in Mexican waters. So you either have to pay $.75 a pound to get your fish cleaned by some company or trade your fish in for canned at the dock. They were offering... for every four pounds of tuna they will give you a six ounce can of canned tuna :censored: :soapbox: NO THANK YOU!!! So I took my fish home and cleaned them myself. Beware if you fish in mexican waters :x

It's not only because you were in Mexican waters that the fish didnt get cleaned....Any trip over 3 days doesnt offer fish cleaning...Too bad the fishing slowed down for your trip cause I know Mike Lackey was right on top of them...

i've been on a few 3 dayerz & i've had my fish cleaned with-out some lame excuse about being in Mexican waters. hopefully everything else went well on the trip & you tip'd accordingly.
good job on the albies... it's better than nodda, que no ?

hopefully this is not something new that the San Diego Fleet is doing.
i would like to beleive it's an isolated mishap or just the Vagabonds

Congrats on the fish you did catch! Sounds like you got the short straw this time out. :?
Just look at it this way, trout season is right around the corner. You can start getting your ultralight gear ready for SARL again.

Thanks for the report, Howard.

I bring my fish home no fish cleaning or not. ALL deckies of ANY boat wiil do this: 1. They will fillet the fish. 2. They will gut the fish. 3.They will chop off the stomach lining. This is where I have a problem. The meat under the stomach linning is a very meaty with very lean meat. My dad is a sushi chef and I agree with everything he says, the meat there is VERY delicious.

sorry about the trip, 3 fish in three days is not that great, but at least you caught something, that is still plenty of eating. on a side note, yea, the belly meat imo is the best cut of meat of the tuna. if you slice out the belly of the tuna, cut some slits going with the grain of the meat, and put sliced garlic in it, grill skin side down, it is really great eating.

Glad to see you were able to get a few albies...tough year for them so far. Soo let me get this right....you spend over $800 plus personal expenses and they don't clean your fish "because we are in Mexican waters."? Based on your report it is not like the fish holds were stuffed and could not handle the work load...I appreciate the info Howstar. Had you been in a ripper bite and brought home a few more fish that would have been a lot of cleaning for you....that or get ripped off on the canned tuna exchange. I don't think the Vagabond is getting my business anytime soon...the Searcher and Mustang have never let me down just fyi. Thanks again for the report!
