Put my float tube in at Bernasconi Rd and headed out to fish for Bluegills and Redears and maybe try for a crappie or two. Trying an area that Perris regular "Flying" told me about in deeper water, I hooked into something that fought great, but just as i was about to see what I had hooked, it got off. Put another waxworm on my shad maribou jig, cast out and bam! another heavy fish taking drag. Finally I get it up and see it and wow!, it's a huge crappie! This thing was 18 inches long. When I landed it by grabbing the lower jaw, it shook so hard that it made my arm shake! Definitely a personal best crappie for me! Hooked one more and lost it to the snag that was down there. I put him on a stringer so I could get my camera out and take a photo of him. Released it back into lake. Caught a lot of nice Redear, but for some reason, I did not catch any of the big male Bluegill. Had a good morning. Sublime-Steve, nice finally meeting you.

Wow that is a big fish. I had one shake out of my hand last week before I got a pic. Hey maybe that was my fish(wish)

I rarely get bluegills anymore like you do but the ones I got a few weeks ago were closer to the tower. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get anymore over there on 2 other trips:Sad:. They weren't big but boy do they fight good.

Maybe I'll see you next Friday.

Cool post, sorry I couldn't make it. That's a nice slab, that spot flying showed you seems like a solid spot, I ended up going there on Sunday, caught on crappie, my first ever, and lost around 7, I'll probably put the post up later tonight when I get home

Nice catch.
Was it a long walk with the float tube from parking to Bernasconi Rd ?
I have been launching my tube from sail cove and fishing in that area and along the dam mostly for bass.
I havent gone since last fall it looked like a hike from the parking lot to Bernasconi Rd.

Yes.. It's a walk to get down to the water in the morning and it's a LOOONNGG walk when you leave. And then you ask yourself.." How did I carry all of this stuff down 6 hours ago?" But what you can do is bungie cord or strap your float tube to a dolly (hand truck) and roll it down to the water on the old road, then hide it in the bushes, which are all over the place, until you leave. Helps a lot. It is quite a bit of a workout for me, I mean I'm huffing and puffing but I really enjoy it and actually it's good for you... not to mention the leg and foot cramps I get while I'm out kicking around in the 'tube.

I've already begun work on this PB crappie. Fiberglass, resin and bondo "blank".
