I'm a toob noob as well, so I can't really help ya. However, my buddy picked up that exact tubin' combo last night at Bass Pro. The guys in the White River Fly Shop were super helpful and recommended that the full combo was a great way to start. They recommended it over his other choice, the Togiak. $$$ saved was the main reason.

Later,
Scott

I started out with a u-boat. But after tubing on it, in the bay, a few times I wanted the added safety of having more than one main bladder. So, I sold that and got the ODC 420 and I am very happy with it.

In regards to taking you out to NPH, I just got a new set up, so I will be going quite often. You are welcome to join me when you are all set up. Just send me a pm. Good luck with your purchase!

Look at the Outcast Fish Cat 4. Great tube & you won't have to worry about the seams coming undone in a year. My buddy has something similar to the BPS tube & has had to return it cuz it was falling apart. The Fish Cat 4 may cost a bit more, but it's a much better tube....that is if you're under 250 lbs, don't go over 275 lbs w/ yourself & gear.

You can get a two way pump that's pictured on the link for $15 & I highly suggest Hotspot fins. They may cost a more like $80, but alot more user friendly than the fins that are offered w/ the combo deal. I know, I tried the ones just like on the link & it was stiff & gave me leg cramps. Or go do Sports Chalet & check out some scuba fins, you can find some cheap. You may also want to look at getting a pair of flats boots or scuba boots. It'll save your feet & back of your feet from getting blisters. Also some of them have soles that you can walk on, so you don't have to bring along a pair of flip-flops. The least expensive ones I've found at Sport Chalet are about $30.

The price is right for the BPS combo, but you'll be looking to upgrade your tube sooner than you want to. The u-tubes have too much drag while you are moving in the water. The v-tubes like the Fish Cat 4 is much easier & better when the wind kicks up.

Mares scuba fins seem to be pretty popular too for tubing, I don't know how much they really cost, but I checked out ebay & this is what I came up with:

This is a pic of my Outcast Fat Cat:

Notice that I used the fins similar to the ones that comes w/ the White River combo. I've returned those nasty things & got the Hotspot fins. Turner's Outdoors carries them, you have to try them out, cuz they come in sizes.

Here's me sporting the Hotspot fins in camo color....nice!

The Fat Cat costs alot more than the Fish Cat 4, quite similar but the Fat Cat is a much bigger tube.

I can't say enough good thing about the Fat Cat by outcast...Great tube

Stay away from all the extra stuff on a tube(Fishfinder, huge rod holders, etc)

It just gets in the way when your fishig the bays and harbors

Take one rod and fish hard!!!

Ghost - What are those colorful wraps around your poles? Do they help the rods float if you drop one? I ask because I lost a rod that slipped off my tube and this might be a good thing to have.

Yep if he drops it, it will float, Frank should have got that stuff a long time ago

I got them at bass pro shops. It's a little bit of insurance that if one of my rods do fall in the water (which hasn't happened yet...& hope it never does), that the rod & reel will either float or slowly sink, that I have time to recover it.

Since I do carry 4 rods & reels, I know that there might be a chance that I can goof up & have one drop, so when I got my float tube, I had to have these floaters for piece of mind.
