I haven’t made a cast in the surf in almost a month… been hunting big Stripers with T.O. for the last few weeks at Lake San Antonio.

I apologize in advance for the relatively short report, but things have been pretty hectic at the office and I’m trying to square everything away before I have to leave for the Parcher’s High Sierras Team 57 event on Thursday. Can’t wait, really could use the rest & relaxation! :Big Grin:

Details:
Headed North with Mike (Bones) and Andrew (Fish_Sauce). S.W.A.T. members.
Conditions were excellent.
Throwing artificials.
Caught six different species and a few nice fish.

Here are some pics… enjoy.

Arthur I'm Sooooooo......tired today but I'm sure NOT as tired as you and Andrew. When you both showed up and told me that both of you pulled an all nighter.....I knew it was going to be a tough day.
We must have walked at least 5 miles of sand during our recon but it was all good until I had to sit in traffic for 2 1/2 hours and listen to the FLAKERS get spanked...

Congrats on the Unique species day my friend. That Zebra Perch fought like mad and even pulled drag and jumped a few times....CRAZY!
I thought you were on a much bigger fish....I want to catch one NOW :Envious:
When you walked up to me and said "Look at the big smelt I caught" and showed me the WSB I couldn't help but wonder what your Karma is going to provide you with when we head for the sierras!
Can't wait for Parchers....Time to kill some brownies!!!

Those shiner surfperch are great bait!

An interesting thing about shiner surfperch--- they swim well up rivers into freshwater. Sometimes you can even find them far into the ducts. the california aquaduct has some. Ive seen a number of pictures where the anglers at the ducts mistake them for shad.

Man oh man, i'm still in pain...but it was WELL worth it!

I can't thank the two of you enough for an awesome day out, especially you Arthur, for enduring the crazy gridlock as i tried to get in some sleep before the long drive back =) We departed at 4:15pm, i didn't get back to my apartment til exactly 8:15pm!!!

It was a good outting nonetheless, i learned a few new things, and i can't wait to get my gear together for the next outting!

That's a solid day in the surf with some nice exotics! Zebra perch and a WSB in one day is pretty cool. Like BrandonFish said, that's definitely a shiner surf perch. Great job out there and can't wait until we hit the surf again Arthur. It's been a while since I had a good surf fishing session, and the season can only get better from here out. I'll keep the Ayu in mind, and talk to ya soon. Let me know if you want to borrow any Sierra gear too.

Guys,

I wish I could have joined you guys yesterday. It looks like you guys had a great time. Well Arthur I know it wasn’t the fish with black stripes on its sides that you have been looking for in the surf but impressive catch on the zebra none the less. Definitely rare. I’m sure it was a nice surprise. I have caught a couple zebras and they get my vote for hardest fighting perch. Well done guys. When you guys get back from the Mammoth trip we should plan for a yak attack mission.

I think theperch is a 7-11 perch. Thats what we use to call them. Use to get them in the bait tank sometimes. Bass eat the #%$# out of them. Pin it on next time. Great pics. Pretty close to a legal croaker there like 26 inches or so. Enjoy your trip.

Ladies and gentlemen... thank you for tuning in.
Sorry that I won't be able to respond to each one of you individually at this time. Between work, the Lakers and getting ready to leave for the High Sierras tomorrow... I've been running around with my hair on fire all week.  :Envious: Maybe I'll get a chance to do so when I return early next week.
