Good afternoon,

I am exhausted, very long day, so I will do my best with this report! If I miss anything, sorry guys, feel free to add!

Got invited by Johnny (Trebleman) and Bill (Formosa) to go hit Lake Elsinore this morning in search of the elusive Wiper. This is another one of my “firsts” goals for this year, and I already have been able to check off Sac Perch and Wild Browns off my list thanks to Seng and Mark. I also have never been to Elsinore. So we discussed last night what bait and tackle to use, directions, etc. So I went and had some fresh 6lb. XXX spooled on my Sahara last night, I wanted every chance I had to land one of these fish. I finally went to sleep at around 11:00 p.m. and slept till about 2:30 a.m. Left the house at 3:00 a.m., and was on my way.

Arrived at the lake with no navigational issues promptly at 4:00 a.m. Today’s TPF Crew ready to slay were:

Ghetto Dad (me)
Seng
Frenchy
OG Warren
Trebleman (Johnny)
Formosa (Bill)
Arctic (Vincent)
DamieN

Got some advice from the Lake Elsinore Gurus themselves, Johnny and Bill, and made my first cast at around 4:15 a.m. Today’s set up for me was a #2/0 Owner Light Circle Hook, Carolina rigged with about a 2 foot leader, ¾ oz sliding sinker, and a live Ghost Shrimp, courtesy of Seng, who was cool enough to make a run to San Pedro yesterday to pick up our bait for us, thanks homie! I was told that Johnny had already landed one prior to my arrival, unfortunaltely, it was short and had to be released.

Soon after I made my first cast, Johnny was on again, and landed his second Wiper of the day, about 16 inches, only a couple inches short.

#2 FOR JOHNNY!

I was talking to Frenchy, when he noticed my bobber going up (same as for trout), so I took the bobber off, gave it a few feet, wound down tight on the fish, and let it hook itself, the beauty of a circle hook! At first, the fish did not put up much fight, and I was disappointed because I was told that they fight well. Not soon after those thoughts, the fish took line! Ok, much better! There were about 20 people on the shoreline today, which made it a challenge not to wipe out half of them with a running fish. I did the best I could, and only wiped out a couple of our crew, lol, and finally, after a GREAT fight, I landed my FIRST EVER Wiper! Looked close to legal, so we measured the fish, and it was just over 17”! ONE MORE INCH!! Lol! No worries, that’s what I came for, photographed and released it back into the lake. Mission complete, and the pressure was off!

I retied my rig, and made another cast. I can relax now. OG Warren got slammed hard and set the hook, and missed the fish. Sorry homie, next time. I look over and see Formosa also swung and missed a fish, and not soon after, OG Warren was bringing up his line to check his bait, and my bobber starts going up. Well, I thought it was Warren bringing up my line, and he got stuck while reeling in. As soon as he told me he was stuck, my rod doubles over and I didn’t have time to react. Fish felt the hook and spit it. Damn, I missed a fish, thinking Warren and I were tangled, lol. No worries.

After we all missed fish, a short time later, Johnny sets the hook on a nicer fish, flylining a live shad that he has caught earlier with his net. After a great battle, Johnny lands the fish, and this one looked bigger then the rest. We taped the fish, and I believe it was about 20”! LEGAL! This was also Johnny’s first legal wiper, great job man!

GREAT JOB AND CONGRATS MAN!

A short time later, Frenchy gets reemed but a fish, and it broke him off. Due to some circumstances I will not mention, lol, he only had 2 lb to fish with today. I know he would have gotten that fish if he would have had his heavier gear.

Then, Bill also gets bit on the flylined shad, and sets the hook solid. A short time later, bill lands one, approximately 17” also. Photographed, and released.

GREAT JOB BILL!

It was now about 7:00 a.m., and I was just about to call it a morning, when Seng finally gets bit! He sets the hook, and fish on! He fight the fish a short time, and eventually landed HIS first ever wiper! Taped out to about 17”, so we photographed and released the fish. Nice job man. So I decided to give it a few more minutes, since Seng just landing his.

Arctic was down a ways, so I really don’t know how he did as far as missing, getting bit, etc. Sorry man…you can reply and let me know, lol.

Ok, time to leave, I am exhausted. By this time, Arctic_nut (lol) gets his waders on, blows up his tube, and heads out onto the lake. I wished him luck, and said my goodbyes to everyone there. I really had a great morning, and thanks everyone for such a great time. Also it was great to meet Johnny and Trebleman, both really cool people, and fun to fish with!
