Sup fish'n gals and guys!

Decided I needed to make a trek up to my favorite lil Mtn Lake, Gregory, on Friday. It had been awhile for a return and I had a feeling it was going to be a good one. The mission was quality not quantity. Usually I get my limit in a short time but this mission was about the bigger units not the many stocker trout and bulls. So I get there around 7:30 am to a beautiful morning in the spot where I usually find the bigger units.

Practically had the lake to myself.

Only saw about 20 people total fishing. Around 8 the wind starts to slowly pick up, it was a nice cool day, with a light breeze all day. A couple of guys were starting out to troll now and it seemed slow for them. The water was warm and the few active fish I saw were larger units. All the fish were shallow, saw a huge 3+ lb trout jump, a large cat swirl in front of me with a tail that had a width of about 6", a large carp and a huge Crayfish.
This lil guy just made his way by me practically right at my feet, he was the largest I have seen at this Lake in awhile, his length from the tip of his head to the end of his tail was at least 6", a lil while later a Blue Jay snuck up on me from behind hopping around. I didn't see the resident Eagles all day, I usually see them snatching trout out of the lake.

So fish'n was slow, a few nibbles here and there. Kept changing my distance working the bait in a foot at a time. Was fishing power worms. Finally around 9:30 I see the tip of my line tap, tap. Hmmmm! finally someone is hungry. One of the ladies walking by yells down to me got any fish? I answer "been slow, but now I have a nibbler". So I pick up my pole and feel the chew, oh yeah I'm gonna let em take it good, get the good tug and set the hook. Feels like a nice one for sure. Reel it in and then it runs zzzzzzz, reel it in more and then it is shaking like crazy, got me a lil fighter. After a minute I get him closer, just on the other side of the weed line, now I am getting worried about getting it through the thick weed line with my 4 lb line, it decides to make another run now, zzzzzz. Thankfully I had my drag set just right and I was able to bring him back through the weed line in front of me and at the last minute he does a lil jump over the weed line towards me and once on my side of the weed line, zzzzzzzz, off he goes again. Now I'm thinking, this is a very nice trout indeed. So I work him back and he gets closer to me and makes a huge jump towards the weed line and I see he is indeed a nice size and a very silver side indeed. Now I'm thinking come on baby! come on in, and wishin I had someone to help net it. Finally, I get him close and I back up to reach for my net and scoop him up, yeahhhhh Baby! I hold the net up for those across the lake to see my catch, I am very excited and the adrenaline rush is going. Try to take some solo pixs of my catch. This was definitely my PB trout at this lake. Oh yeah that's what I'm talkin bout, was what I was saying out loud, lol. So here it is my 2.16 PB Gregory trout.

Decided to stay for another half hour and relocate to get my limit so I can head down the hill. They weighed it at the office and had me submit my info for the fishing report, cool! I cleaned it right away so I could get it in the ice chest, the fillets were beautiful.

Brought some munchies but opted to take a lil break and grab a burger to go with my chips and soda. Then I decided didn't want to catch any more trout since I was the only one home for a few days. Hmmmmm! what to do, so I went to the dam and ate my lunch while I watched some young guys catching some Crappie. I thought I would like to catch some and have me some Crappie appetizers for dinner later that day. So brought out the UL gear 2 lb. The guys were tossing out tube jigs and catching a few here and there, they left with about a lil over a dozen. So I rig my pole with a slip bobber and a Gitzit Jig, 1/16, and tip it with a meal worm. That was the ticket I caught a Crappie on every cast at first then it slowed down after 15 Crappie but I was still catching them.

They tore up my lil Gitzit, all the fins and tail were torn off, what a blast catching them.

Lost several and accidently dropped a few back in the water. Decided to keep a few of the bigger ones to make some appetizers, they were good eating, dipped them in seasoning and tossed them in the fry daddy. So the day was fun and the eating was good. Gregory turned out to be a good choice for me for the day. Thanks for reading the post and until next NG outing, tight lines all.

Some nice fillets, xlnt color and taste on my trout.
This lil Crappie was the blackest of all, too bad his teal green and aqua blue color didn't show up on this pick, he was a beauty.

Last Saturday, the 5th I went with my friends and their small Church group to a Private Campground near Lytle Creek. I believe it was called Mtn. Lakes. Mainly went to fish the ponds, there was a trout and a catfish pond. Boy were they shallow, started off at the trout pond but no takers. Only saw one guy catch a fish on his HUGE setup, with his HUGE bell indicator. I had to take a pix of him, thankfully my friends husband was fishing where I could take a pix of him and get the guy in the background. When I first heard it I thought "are there some cows in the area?". Then I look over and see this huge bell and I had to turn away cuz I started to laugh so hard. His buddy tells him later, "What is with the huge bell", and he takes it off, lol.

Later we went to the Catfish pond and earlier some boys caught their limit so I knew the action was better at this pond. There were alot of people and the spots I wanted to fish were taken.

So the rest of our gang finally get up there around 11 and we break for lunch. I decided to get back to fishing and they all decided to get back to the Host's cabin and visit. Finally, later in the afternoon I get to the spot I wanted and get set up.

Got a nibble right away and lil nibble here and there. The only bad thing was all the kids running around tossing right where I was fishing. Then they decided to catch all the blue gills and they swarmed all over, crossing lines. This lil pond had the most blue gills I have ever seen in a lil body of water. So fishing wasn't great but it was great to just get out and hit the water and check this place out. My friends might join the camping association and I was telling them it would be a great lil place for the colder months, for fishing fo' sho'.

Fabulous report NG, congrats on your PB Lake Gregory Trout. :Big Grin:
I heard those Crappies are fun to catch and very good eating. Funny, Mikey (Exfactor) just gave me an invitation to be my guide at Cachuma to fish for some slabs. Just might have to take him up on that very soon. I've been on the Striper hunt for the last few weeks... kinda miss the surf, might head out the door in a few hours. Keep the great reports coming!
