I'm just getting back into fishing and I've picked up a few rod and reel combos. Now after the purchase I'm realizing that carrying spare spools with different # line spooled can be an INCREDIBLE help. Particularly for my Abu Garcia Cardinal which is currently spun up with 2# for the trout. However, with the trout slowing down getting 4-6# would be more versatile.

Do most of you just purchase the extra spool when buying the reel?

Thanks!!!

Always buy an extra spool or two for the reasons just as you said. Ebay is a source ... as well as tackle shops, or course.

Good luck!

You can buy it directly from Pure Fishing. Get their contact info from Abu Garcia's website.

How about fish with a heavier line and add a short topshot of lighter line? I don't do much trout fishing at all but I'm thinking I could spool the reel with 8-10 pound mono on there and then depending on conditions add a leader of 2-6 pound mono.

Pretty much the same idea when I fish the salt. I use 65# spectra backing and then add a short leader of mono depending on conditions.

I get all my spares from ebay - very cheap.
