Set off from LA at 5am and made good time up to SB to meet capt David Bacon and capt Tiffany. Seems like the sun was up when we left the house. we all had to check our watches in case we didn't have some sort of mass hysteria. The weather was perfect and the sea was greasy and flat. After picking up some nice sardines we hit a few very inshore spots for a few rockifish. we moved to the kelp and threw swimbaits and live bait for a few calicos. we motored to a spot about 100ft deep and it was wide open on reds and chocolates, there were even a few calicos. so fun on the light tackle, i rigged my revo with a dropper loop had a blast. End of the day we anchored pretty close to the shore for a few more rockfish and calicos. Here's the kicker of the trip - Mike was throwing a sardine on his brand new Curado while talking to capt Bacon. The capt was telling Mike that he wouldn't be surprised to see some nice halibut in the area, not 20sec later Mike goes super bendo. As he's fighting the fish he pulls up and goes to reel down, but the new reel seizes. the line goes slack and goodbye what was on the other end of the line. anyone ever had a curado crap out on them like that? Revo up!
