laguna beach 6/3-one cast-2 cranks-one legal butt

So my day started out at san O, I did a little surfing and was so exhausted I decided not to try fishing the surf there. Now when I look back I should have thrown the LC down there a bit it seems like the perfect conditions minus the rocky bottom. Decided to check out laguna on the way back as my friend wanted to scope on a so called topless beach well there was no eye candy to be seen so I grabbed my equipment from the car and tied on the LC. Made a cast just beyond some floating kelp, gave it 2 cranks felt a bump and set the hook :Cool:. This guy went straight for the kelp and it was a pain landing him, but I finally got him on shore for a photo. Ended up being 26 inches my personal best so I'm stoked. I made a few more casts and lost my LC on some kelp :Evil:, I have 2 more but I'll definitely be getting one in this color again.

Picked up my first LC Saturday and tossed it around Santa Barbara. Way to much loose kelp and grass floating about to get it to work.
Still looking for my first legal Halibut of the year. Thats a nice one.

GReat catch for sure. You got a nice fish on your lure before you lost it. I would say it was well worth the money. Fish your Laguna spots as often as you can this season. On Jan 1, 2011 Laguna will become closed to fishing forever. You can thank The Governator, the rich poperty owners of Laguna Beach, Packard Foundation (HP), and those who supported the corrupt MLPA process for taking it away.

thanks all! This catch was significant because I haven't caught a legal in 2 years and the last one I caught was on a bass trix, so it was also my first halibut on the LC it was just perch before that. And looking back I don't know why I didn't just try and find it in the kelp lol, oh well maybe steve can find it.

Nice flattie. Good to hear you caught a legal on your LC before you lost it. I would cry if I lost mine and didn't catch a thing on it.

Don't feel bad, since I've started the Surf Fishing, I've lost at least a dozen LC's. It comes with the territory when new to the Surf Thing.
