Good question. As baseball is deeply traditional I can see a lot of opposition to an expansion of replay... but dang, that was a real shame - a possible third perfect game in a season? A second in a week??? (I'm wondering if the commish might just danm tradition and step in to do a little rule bending, .)

On the positive side, how about the sportsmanship exhibited by both Gallaraga and Joyce? I mean, how many human beings could lose a perfect game on a WAY blown call on the last play and then laugh instead of going ape-shirt crazy???? And how many officials (sports or other) ever admit to a mistake and then (gasp) apologize???

Unfortunate event, graceful resolution. Baseball, it keeps pulling me back in...

For all that invades pro sports -- ego, posturing, disloyalty, insane tweet wars -- Armando Galarraga and Jim Joyce have turned an awful storyline around very gracefully.

Joyce is a class act (22 years as a major league ump and VERY respected by the players)..... obviously he knows he made a mistake, apoligized for it, and my understanding is, he has a letter into Selig asking that his call be reversed........

and I just read that Selig WILL NOT reverse the call.
Selig, he keeps baseball from pulling me back in...

IMO, Selig should not reverse it. It was NOT a perfect game.

Sure Gallaraga was perfect, Joyce was not. Umpires and their calls are every bit part of the game.

Baseball has always been about tradition, sacred records, and history. Don't start bending rules to allow "justice" just cause it feels good now, when virtually every game, umpires make a wrong call due to human error.

Baseball is not a computer game and human error is a factor for the umps just as for the players.

Having said that, Jim Joyce should be fired and nothing short of a ball thrown into the stands should of been an out.

really are you serious? so if he was safe joyce should of called him out??????now thats about the stupid youve been listening to steven a smith to long lol

what you say about bending the rules well at times when an ump missies a call & all the umps get together talk about & reverse the call good ol bud could of done the same...to me it doesnt matter if he overturns it or not everyone knows what happened and thats good enough for me.....fyi dont get me started on the allstar game counting either lol
seriously though make a list of all the good things bud has done for the game let me know if you get past #5

that pitcher got a brand new corvette,for his almost perfect game,G.M, and the tigers bought it for him.way cool.also the ump did the right thing by saying sorry and admitting his mistake.not to many do that.(angels and yankees last year in the playoffs.)

First off, learn how to make a coherent sentence or two please? Its hard to have a discussion when I don't even know what your trying to say?

"If he was safe he should of called him out"..... I never said to make a bad call here.. I was inferring that to break up a perfect game with 2 outs in the 9th,the play HAS to be beyond a shadow of a doubt, a hit.

Regarding firing Joyce, whats wrong with holding a professional who is at the APEX of his line of work accountable for his actions! His call was egregious and he should be held accountable, Right? What would you have done? Nothing?

I also never mentioned Bud Selig, so I assume you think I am defending him? Again your lack coherent thought is tough to understand what your sayin?

Allstar game? WTF? who mentioned allstar game?

But I will give you 5 "good" things Bud has done for baseball

1} The wild card

2} Interleague play. {if you do not agree with IL play, you cannot argue that the increased revenue for the teams during IL games are a good thing}

3} DIVISION realignment. No longer are the Braves in the NL west.. ETC

4} Steroid testing... { one would argue that he was at fault during the time, but the fact that PED testing is a good thing and started by BUD}

5} Added a third round to the playoff schedule!

6} No work stoppages while he is Commish
