Hi again. A new week means another Castaic Lake outing. This week Rob (Rez) joined me on my day off to fish the ever present striped bass at Castaic Lake. We did pretty good. We caught over our 20 fish minimum. We had a steady pick on fish throughout the day. We started at 7 and by noonish we caught 20 fish at our designated buoy line spot. We tried moving around and fish other underwater point of interest in the same area but they were fruitless besides for a few schoolies. We would have fished other parts of the lake but with 2 people on my boat it is way too slow moving from area to the next. Hopefully the quest for an upgraded motor or boat in the near future will come true. We decided to quit while we were ahead and go home early. We caught some pretty decent units. Rob definitely had the hot stick and put quite a few on board. Here are the still frames:

This fish fought hard.

Rob on again. I got tired of taking pictures of his fish.

Dan (Lowe Boat) fished next to us. He did pretty well also.

Result: A another fatty.

Rob drops a new bait down and follows up.

More decent units from Rob. He likes to color coordinate his attire with where he fish.

This is how the graph looked at our spot. Lots of fish!

Great job! We were fishing two boats down from you and got skunked. Very frustrating. We were using 4 lb test and frozen 'dines. We got only one bite between 11:30 and 3:30. We were fishing just off the bottom, straight down. Carolina rigs on three rods and split shot on another rod. Nice long 3' leaders of 4 lb mono (not fluoro). Thin wire #2 hooks. 3/4" chunks of 'dine.

Any suggestions? Were you guys using fresh dead 'dines or frozen?

Thanks for any help you can provide. I just can't figure out the bait and wait...

We were using frozen sardines. It was not very fresh once it thawed, but it worked. They bit more on top this time around. We were using 6 lb line about a 2-3 feet leader on a 1/8 oz split shot. Use the belly sections, they love the guts. This week has been a major change to their movement and wants. Hopefully I can figured them again.

Sardines has been the bait of choice for the past 9 months. You can catch some the striped bass from shore. Fish the dam to the left facing the lake. When I get back I always see someone bring a couple of stripers to their car.

Upper lake. If it is the lower I have no clue. You gotta ask Fireball, Raylo, or Rez. They fish the lower often and they are pro at it.

It's at the end of the west arm of the main lake.
