When fishing from the piers using cut squid what rig would you use - A carolina rig rig? or a drop shot rig?

i would use a dropper loop. use 2 hooks about 12" apart. and a 3/4-1oz weight. squid works good.

For me, it all depends on what I am targeting, as well as where you are fishing on the pier (as in close to shore or way out).

For piers, a tri-swivel can be useful.

For some reason, i find these more comfortable to use, than just one swivel. Tried them out for the first time yesterday, and it was nice.

When the surf is weak, and the wind is gentle, use smaller sinkers.

I find in weaker surf, the fish can concentrate more on the rig, and sometimes a large sinker spooks them. But in rough surf, they concentrate a little more on just getting to the bait, so its a little less important.

Bring some thread. Whenever you catch mackerel, the soft organs, when fastened with thread, are much more apealing than the actual flesh itself. try to use red thread.
