We hit Lake Casitas this morning, Dawn Patrol style. Didn't have much luck there but it's a really nice lake. We plan on getting to know it better, hopefully we'll land more fish there next time.

We tried every lure and technique we could think of but didn't even get a nibble. We tried the drop shot with a shitload of different plastics, crankbaits, weightless senkos, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, and even busted out the fly rod for a few casts but not a thing happened.

I suggested we try trolling some crankbaits and see if we could get into some Trout. Shortly after, Mike landed a nice one. I hooked up a few minutes later but the fish got unbuttoned due to complications with a sandwich while setting the hook.

We decided to try for bass again. At our first spot we saw the biggest freshwater bass either of us had ever seen chasing a smaller bass around. Threw all our sh** at it but wasn't interested. It got super hot and the bugs were being total di***, so we tried to troll for a little while longer then called it a day.

It sounds like those Casitas bass are locked into those shad again. Feb thru early and mid are usually the best months. As for trout trying drifting night crawlers at about 30ft.

will do. we found a bunch of shad in the shallows in the AM and even tried scooping them with our crappy trout net.

You might want to have 2 shad nets

You guys are everywhere. Good job with that trout!
We haven't fished that lake in years. Perhaps one of these days we'll visit it when they're not so uptight about boat quarantines. I guess it's for the better of everyone.
