5/20 Harbor Tubing & 5/24 Shore fishing

5/20

So finally got to take out the pontoon I bought from Mrfishcado on Thursday. Met up with Brandonfish at a little after 5 and arrived at the bay at 6am. It was Brandons second tube trip and my first so it took us a while to get situated. We finally got in the water at 7am.
Brandon was quick to hook up on his first cast! I got crazy lucky and hooked up on my first AND second cast!! At that point we knew it was going to be one hell of a day. We hit up our usual spots and had some great success, the tubes definitely out fish the shore as we were able to get into a lot of spaces we couldn't before.

Totaled out at 29 fish for the day:
Me: 12,
Brandon: 17
8 different species total (I swear it was 9 but i cant remember the last)

Turbot- 1
Halibut- 3 (20+ inch, 18 inch, 15 inch)
Yellowfin Croaker- 1
Barracuda- 1 (21 inch)
Tomcod- 1
Batray- 1 (only a baby)
Sand Bass- 1
Spotted Bay Bass- 18 (handful of legals)

I also want to point out that; NO MATTER HOW GREAT OF AN IDEA IT SOUNDS, DO NOT TUBE ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE BAY....one of the worst ideas ever.

So I had been wanting to get my fiancee' out for some shore fishing (catching) since she accompanied me on my first couple harbor trips where i got horribly skunked. I lost 2 fish, one felt like a halibut. We got a late start on the day because she refuses to wake up early for "fishing". She caught her first harbor fish, then her second! Both were shorties but still nice halibuts. I got skunked, but I'm glad I was able to hook her up on some fish.

Its kinda far for me, plus I have school tomorrow. Maybe I will go a couple times over the summer. Thanks for the invite though.

You do not tube across the bay because it is one of the most tiring things you can ever do haha. At one point we were sitting in the same spot for 10 mins while kicking like crazy, the tide just kept us in place. I couldnt feel my legs after lol (not to mention you have to swim back too...)

Brandon- There were a few jellyfish when i was there, but you should be fine lol. Buy some waders you cheap ***!

Fireball- You're welcome to join us anytime, if not we can go for striper sometime lol

It sounds like the equivalent of tubing in really high winds at the Goon, haha. I'll hit you guys up sometime if I want to go. In the mean time, you guys are welcome to tube with me at the Lagoon.

Dan, glad to hear you are putting the tube back to use. Have fun with it. Try to fish Cabrillo or cherry beach. Bigger butts there. If I can help you with anything else, let me know. Have fun and enjoy the tube.

Nice job getting your girl on some fish. Tess hated waking up early just for "fishing", but I forced her to wake up her first time out with me. Now she understands that it could mean the difference between a good and bad fishing day. :Cool:

The trick my friends is to carry a backpack FULL OF SNACKS and to make FREQUENT RESTROOM STOPS (yes. Frequent).

Then PROMISE to take them to either a) Outlet of their Choice or b) Mall of their choice.

Works every time, although I'm starting to think it's really not worth it (just kidding honey.....).

(oh and Catching fish helps, if you get skunked....don't expect her to go back lol)
