Went to drop my boat in the water and took along my Dad, bro, nephew and good bud and fly tying extraordinaire, Pete.
Day one. Registered boat and got it in the slip. Got out on water kinda late. Did a few hours of recon. Fished North Arm for a trout and two perch and moved to Sandy to join the fleet. Action was hot on fish between 12 and 16" on midges in 13' of water till one. We kept 2 fish for dinner and my buddy cut the stomach to check out the midges. They looked about size 16 with white gills. Greenish gray. At lease 300 to each fish and many still alive. He copied these on the vise and as we found out the following day, boy did they work.
Day two. We decided to do more recon as we were looking for bigger fish. Went way to the West of the bait fleet in McGee. Used a few tricks taught to me by the guides up there and had 10 fish to my rod in no time. First fish was a 24" Rainbow. Smallest for the day, 16". Midges in 8' to 10' of water with some bigger perch mixed in. We had the corner of McGee to ourselves. Took a trout and a perch to camp for dinner.
Day three. Tried bait fishing in McGee for my nephew but got zilch. Guys, I seriously suck at finding bait fishing spots! We went back out to the same areas of McGee and just fished slight bottom changes. Not as many grabs with the falling barometer, but my buddy Pete hooked up with a nice 22" brown. Made his trip! Looks like this year is is starting out well and I am looking forward to many more big fish days. See you out there on the water guys.
