sol my question to you is, whats the difference between hard and softshell sand crabs? Is it literally that one has a soft shell and the other a soft one?

Since we're on the topic of sand crabs, whats the beat way to hook them? Just straight through the middle? Or does anyone have a special preference?

i think soft shells are the ones that have just multed and are regrowing their shell, i have found ones that were mixed between the two.

If you take the hard shell off you make a
good soft shell for a cast or two ......

I hook them in the butt (thru the eggs if they are there) with the hook sticking upwards. I leave plenty of hook exposed and have not had problems with that.
