My son's 1st Spot Fin Croaker..

Went to San Onofre this morning for the outgoing high tide at 6:30.
When we arrived the waves were about 6-8 feet with lots of salad in the water. The temp was 59 degrees and the winds were almost non-existant.
I'm teaching Tre' how to cast with a conventional reel, so I can get more time in myself in the surf.
Started out slow with quite a few birds nest's but after an hour he made a real nice cast to our hot spot. After 5 minutes his pole goes bendo, he grabs the rod, starts reeling in but let up on the pressure and lost the fish...:Rolls Eyes:
After another 15 minutes he gets hit again, I mean the rod got bent hard, and he grabs it, starts reeling again and as he's down by the surf reeling in the fish came off and I don't know why...:Confused:
The tide is moving out pretty fast so I start to cast and after a few minutes, Fish On!
I tell Tre' to grab the rod and he finally gets his first SPC,

It taped out at 19' and that would be the first and only fish brought in for the day.
He was very stoked and it made his day...:Big Grin:

very nice ... my son caught his first SFC this weekend too. ill be posting it up shortly.
i guess their bitting cause HB pier was going off too for these critters along with the perch.

A life guard there at the beach, that I know from elementary school, said they are getting alot of those fish down by the trails.
He is only 5'7", but eats like he's 6'2"...lol

Yeah, after a couple of minutes he wanted to hand off the pole and I just laughed at him....That's all it took, it was on the beach a couple of minutes later.
