Good afternoon,
As a lot of you know, due to personal reasons, I have kind of been in “retirement” from fishing. I am slowly but surely trying to get back out when I can.
My original plan for today was to fish on a sportboat, but due to the possiblility of rain, none of the boats that I prefer to go on had any reservations for today. Late last night, I had decided that I was going to see the weather in the morning, and possibly jump on a 10:00 am ˝ boat somewhere. Woke up this morning to pouring rain in HB, and decided not to fish a boat, and went back to sleep. Woke up a short time later, and decided that I REALLY wanted to fish, so grabbed my gear, and was off to Newport Harbor for some spottie action.
Had to make a quick stop at Turner’s for some new 6 lb P-Line, 2” Baby Shrimp in Nuclear, 3” swimming mullets in Shad, and some 5” Jerk Shads in Nuclear GULP! Also picked up a pack of 4 inch big Hammer tails and a small pack of heads.
Arrived at NPH to be greeted by sprinkles and wind, and set up a swimming mullet on the dropshot. Today I started on the North Side of the island, and the tide was low, and still moving out, not a good sign.
I worked the entire North Side of the Island, missing a few dinks, and two LEGIT fish. After a couple hours, I finally stuck a fish, which was a dink, but a fish nonetheless! The skunk was off!! Stuck one more in this spot, and decided to head to my spots on the southern part of the island.
By now, it was slack tide, which means no movement, which means no good. I switched over to a larger GULP, the 5 inch jerk shad. But I didn’t care, I was out fishing! Fished ghetto dad point, missed a couple fish, and moved to the West Side of the island, where I have another spot I like to fish, and stuck a slightly larger dink, lol. Missed a couple more, and headed back to the South Side of the Island to finish off my day.
Ended up with one more dink, and a total of 6 fish for the day. Yes, all dinks today, no larger models (I did have two shots at larger models, but missed them both, and missed a few dinks, so I can’t complain), but I was happy that I got to get out and fish NPH again....gonna try to do it more often!!
Thanks for reading everyone, hopefully my next NPH report will include some bigger fish, lol……peace!
