Last weeks 14 lb. 14 oz brown trout out of Twin Lakes in Bridgeport set a pretty high standard for Eastern Sierra big fish honors this season. Not even 10 days later, the bar has been raised with this 15 lb. 10 oz. brown trout caught from June Lake last Wednesday...on Powerbait of all things!

Also, several 4+ pound browns are showing up from Crowley on up to Bridgeport. The Bishop area has already seen 2 fish (Rainbow Trout) over 8 pounds and several in the 4-5 pound range.

So far, a great season for big fish!

Get out there and get some!

lol they should give some prize huh hahaha

well that new red powerbait they have out is loaded with salmon egg flavor. the big boy probably thought it was a salmon egg. still weird that it hit it, i heard it was just chasing freshly planted stockers by the shore.

Brown's out of June are a rarity ... plus a brown on power bait is also a rarity.

I don't understand the mentality in killing a fish like this. There are not many fish like this, especially one like this in June Lake. I have been fishing June Lake for 20 years, and can count how many browns I have caught on one hand from there. This fish had many years left to live, and from the looks of it, this was a female in her breeding prime.....I would be ashamed. Catch, photo, release all day.

A full tail is a characteristic of a native fish. It means that the tail is unbeaten, clipped or split like a hatchery fishes fins usually are from being corralled together and from being reared in concrete pools.

F.Y.I - A native fish is one that has not been planted, but is from a natural spawn. Fish stocked as fingerlings or small fry can also have these characteristics.

Just another reason why this fish should have been allowed to live.

Yeah, I would have CPR'ed (Catch, Photo, Release) such a fish also. I'm not into taxidermy, and big trout (over 4# or so) tend to taste pretty strong. I guess if you catch a fish of this size, you are entitled by law to keep it/kill it. I just view the issue in a differing light, I guess. Since it may have swallowed the Power Bait, it might have been unreleaseable/injured. Hard to say.
