So, my aunt, uncle and i headed out to huntington beach at 4:00am, high tide started at 6:18. We got to the water arond 5:30am and MANNN those waves were HUGE!! This was there first time surf fishing and my second time. So we get all baited up and my uncle gets one right off the bat kinda small. Then me and my aunt hook into so nice 9-10inchers. So we are fishing and every cast we had a fish all really good size surfperch! Then my uncle hooks into something that was fighting REALLY hard and he lossed it, whatever it was it was big! Then i hook into something really good...I think its a corbina not sure tho Can i get a fish ID please??(pic below) So imma wrap this up we caught a BUNCH biggest was around 12inches. BTW there was Corbina everywhere in the surf. (i think thats what they are im still new at this)
The funniest part about this trip my uncle forgot hes swimming trunks LMAO thats why hes wearing pants

FISH ID PLEASE?

Cool Croaker and congrats on the perch fest. It's one of the best ways to get a someone addicted to the surf. I would be willing to bet that the fish you saw were corbina though. They are usually the one fish that you can see but they can be very elusive when trying to hook up. Best way to catch a bean is to use medium sized sandcrabs on a carolina rig. Most of the beans will come on the sideways casts in the shallow water when they slide in to feed on the crab beds. Always seem like the ones that you can see have lock jaw. It's the nature of the bean. No worries about your partner wearing pants.......He looks like he is having a great time!
Just by looking at that awesome trough you guys were fishing I can tell you guys were on a good bite. Those spots can be like a fish highway at high tide when they fill in. If you think that perchin it up is addicting just wait until you figure out the beans.....They take off like a freight train and are probably the best fighting surf species pound for pound IMHO. Try taking a ultralight setup next time with you and target the beans. They are very line shy in clear water but a good bean bite is hard to beat!

Thanks for the report!

When the corbina do get into action they will be hitting you in the legs if you are out there in the waders. Don't get spooked by them! "SHARK"

If the "Big Surf" is not present and you are just taking knee slappers and not moving around much you are somewhat stealthy!

the sandcrabs are not hard to hook but the mussel is kind of hard to hook. You have to make sure it has a good place to hook it if not on your cast you would loss you bait.
