Still waiting for conditions to improve a bit more on the saltwater scene, but in the meantime, we keep having success up at the lake with those "Carp in Tuxedos". Today I had Dave and Grant with me. It takes coordination and cooperation to fish three fly anglers on my 20' boat, but we did fine. Everyone caught fish, had some laughs, and enjoyed the day.

I guess we're in the right place...

Excellent!!! Great way to spend the day, looks like the wind wasn't too much of a factor for you guys, what time did you get out there? I was there early morning and it seemed like it was starting to die down as it got later, but I didn't have the time.

Wait till they start boiling and you are going to have some extreme fly fishing!

Once again, nice job!! I'm very envious. i tried going a week ago but the wind kept us from launching. I've been tying flies ever since I saw your last report. lots of work but nothing beats the feel of hooking up and fighting a fish on the fly. Thanks for sharing the great report!!

This is the simple-to-tie "Shad Fly" we have had success with. Clousers work well also. We locate fish on points and humps and send the flies down to them using 250-300 grain lines. Sharp, erratic strips entice the strikes.

We have been getting there right as they open, and even though the wind has been a factor, we have made it work. The wind died down for us. By mid-day, it was almost dead calm in the sheltered coves and we were wishing for some breeze to cool us down.

Can't wait to try the surface game when the boils start happening.

Nice job on them fly-feesh !

Congrats on a job well done guys ! : )

Nice work tying the fly's, I spent years (my younger years) tying and fly fishing, man, there's nothing like not only tying your own but the satisfaction you get when you get them on your own creation is second to none, I still tye my own bucktail jigs so I still have that sense of satisfaction but hooking 'em on a flyrod is a little more personal !

Hat's off to ya' !

Congrats !

Thank you Boldfin. I appreciate the information. I used to have a 9 wt browning flyrod for throwing poppers, it was stolen years ago. Right now I have a 6 wt. That should be exciting with striper. I'll have to get a sinking line, mine is so old.

Catching them on flies you tie yourself is as good as it get's.

The first day I went out with fly's that I tied, I lost count at 30 trout C&Rd. I guess I'm kinda spoiled.

I never see people do fly fishing at the Castiac Lake. How much weight your lure? Does it goes deep into the water or on the surface of the water? Good job on Fly Fishing !

Is your pattern like an EP (enrico puglisi) baitfish hybrid? If so, i think i could use my saltwater baitfish patterns.
btw: nice looking fly.
