Smallmouth pull so hard! A 1.5# smallie pulled harder than any large mouth i have ever caught like the spotted bay bass of fresh water just my two cents

Catfish, only because they grow the largest for all the freshwater fish......
but if a bass would grow to 80+lbs id pick bass....

LMB cause they're tricky bastards that you have to figure out and put time, money, effort, blood, sweat, and a lot of tears.

Without a doubt, CATFISH!!!
However, if there was a 80+ LMB, like fishbones said, then, I wouild consider it.

Decisions, Decisions!!!!! That's a good question, but I have to go with the LMB. They are just harder to catch and more of a challenge for me.

Duct stripers
Yoked out all the time from fighting the current and grow to 40+ lbs. If you have never fought a duct striper, it is comparable to a smallmouth in a river
Also with everyone fishing one fish, why not have a fish with such a reproduction rate.

I would have to say Golden Trout are my favorite, although I have lots of "favorites." Largemouth Bass would be well down on my list, although they seem to be winning this poll.

I'm qualifying my answer: If reproducing populations of SMALLMOUTH could be widely and successfully introduced to Southern California, that would be my one species of choice. If not: Squawfish (Columbia strain.)

Have to be LMB. For me it's all the different ways to catch them with artificial lures/baits that keeps it interesting.

10 lb Bass or 100 lb Alligator Gar ?
LMB is a baitfish.
If you only could have one fish, why a dink ?
Bass, trout, catfish, salmon are only good for bait !
Pin one on a 10/0 hook with 60 lb to 100 lb test and it is game on.
Start catching fish over 50 pounds then you will stop fishing for bait.

I enjoy just walking around the lake throwing a spinner or kastmaster for trout too much to not let it be my choice. Gotta love the Rainbows.

I love LMB, but I would have to go with Stripped Bass over 30lb plus. Man they hit that top water lure or swim bait like a Mac truck and they taste pretty good between corn tortillas. "Fish Taco's for everybody"
