My daughter Laura surprised me with a request for me to take her fishing at Vail Lake. I had not fished with Laura for 5 years, and since I had a free day today, I jumped at the chance.

Laura and I were first on the water, and we headed over to the spot where I have been putting my clients on fish. There was a slight haze on the water, and the bass were willing to bite this morning. It was going to be a great day for sure.

As is Laura's luck, she was the first to hookup with a fish. A nice bass of about 2 pounds, maybe a little bigger, inhaled her bait. She was stoked. The picture is a little hazy due to the fog.

Laura was soon on another one.

Then she caught a nice crappie. These slabs are huge.

Once again Laura is on. By the way, at this point I have yet to hook up with a fish.

So far the score is Laura 4, me "zero". Laura then hooks up with her 5th fish, and as I am removing the hook from the fishes mouth, the line breaks, and I have to re-tie another hook for her, as well as remove the hook from her fishes mouth. At this point, she picks up my rod, and sets the hook. Soon she has caught another fish, and I am still working on her other fish.

Now the score is Laura 6 fish, me still the skunk. Here are her 2 bass.

Laura finally decided I could play, and soon I caught my first fish. I would end up with 3, and Laura finished with 8. The bite was not red hot as it had been, and it should have cooled off with the amount of fish caught over the last 5 days.

I hope there are some left for tomorrow's trip. We were off the water by 11:00. Thanks Laura for a great time. By the way, Laura said she smoked me to the lake staff. They were laughing as they told me what she said. She did, what can I say.

That is so cool your daughter likes to bass fish! My daughters are about that age also. Congrats on the good times!!
Hope to see ya soon out there after a little vacation/RV purchase and drive back from Oregon. Heck of a time to leave considering the bass are turning on at Vail but this offer was too good.

Glad you enjoyed time on the water with your daughter. Those are special times.

Tight lines my friend,
Ted

LOL,Im expecting to see a cute lil 8 year old girl with some bluegill.OMG you made a beautiful lil girl, well done.
Now let me say OH DAMN Laura,I had to take a 2nd look at the huge crappie. At first glance just thought it was another nice bass that you had slayed. It's great to see families staying together through a common interest or activity.
I cant wait to take my girl out fishing in 10-15 years, wonder how it will be.Thanks for sharing them beautiful fish & your lovely daughter with us.

Thanks for the comment guys, and girls. Laura was my fishing buddy for years, then had to lay off due to softball, school, and now a full time job. She will start fishing with me more often now that the bass bug has bitten her again.
