Got a text from Jeff (Webmaster) saying " The white seabass are biting wanna go?"....and i jump up off my seat
and text back "heck yeah" as fast as my two thumbs can,so we set it up and i got off work early and met up at his
pad to load up and we were on our way. Got to the marina and launched the boat and started harbor cruising from
bait receiver to bait receiver hoping for some bait but no luck locally. we left the harbor to smooth glassy seas
and beautiful weather so we motored across the big salty lake in hopes to find some live squid at catalina island.
we radioed to the island squid boats on the frontside with no luck so we headed to the backside and just as we
were already at the fishing grounds the squid boats finally radio back saying there passing long point heading to avalon
....me and jeff look at each other like dang it ...so jeff pulls a u turn and were off back to the frontside and finally meet
up with the squidders and get our receiver full of the ink and talked with the deckhand for some info and advise and
decide to anchor up in front of boyscout beach, by this time it was 45mins till sunrise and the day begain.
First up was me with a calico and bonita combo at sunrise while jeff caught a nap....that woke him up nicely..
and soon jeff was on a fish,

we ended up being only a few hundred yards from the fishing grounds where the white seabass were being caught
so we pulled anchor and lined up with all the otherprivate boats and a few charter boats for a try at the whites and
any other willing victims.

The day went on with lots of fish being caught but no WSB caught by us or seen by others in the area.
We trolled around the cd rapalas with no luck and fished many spots up and down the frontside all spots gave off
ones and twos but didnt really open up

untill we hit up a spot i remember i fished back in the day when i worked on the el dorado. we dropped anchor
and the slay began with wide open bite of white...............fish, lol ..... calicos, sheepheads, and a few bonito.

we caught released lots of fish and i mean alot of fish and just kept the larger units for dinner, all calicos were released
with a few exotics along the way, a beautiful opaleye perch and a torpedo jacksmelt and 747 mackrel that was huge,
senorita fish, a manta shrimp and a cong shell.

our numbers of fish were high for all species and we easily limited out in our final head count for the day.
we never found the white seabass but had a great day slaying all other species and were happy with the final results.

On the final spot the weather turned ugly and gave us a thrill ride home, sorry no pics.
..i was to busy holding on for dear life...lol....jeffs boat is awesome and it handled great in those conditions.
along the way we saw a huge pod of porpose jumping and fliping like a kid on a candy sorry no pics....again..
.my life ...lol after a nice ride thru the channel we reached the breakwall loaded up the trailer and called it a day.

Very cool fishing with you again Alex. I counted 12 species for the day:

calicos
sheeps
whitefish
bones
pacific mack
spanish mack
jacksmelt
mantis shrimp
blue perch
opaleye
seniorita
and the conch!

Best part was watching the bonies dance behind your LC with you cranking the handle on the little baitcaster as fast as it could turn!
That was some nasty weather the last couple miles home. Good job on hanging in there, I think most would have needed a new change of underwear after that one. Dam weather guys just can't seem to get it right this year!

Good report!

Unfortunately you had terrible conditions for cbass as your pics tell the story.

Cbass are very condition sensitive and are very spooky, if you're not careful it's easy to scare off a school of cbass before you bait a hook

That was one totally awesome report! By the time I finished it, I was ready to shirk all my responsiblities & book the next 3/4 day to Catalina and pull in fish until my arms quit working. This is the kind of report that would even spur non-fisherpeople to become hardcore slayage masters--it was that good.
