Well, yesterday (4/17) was more like a scouting mission and introducing my 18 month old daughter to the world of fishing. We only spent about 1.5 hours on the water before the little one was ready to go home. We did manage to get one redear on a red worm though.

This morning (4/18), my son woke up and asked if we could go fishing. This is where simplicity comes in. I had decided to take Jr. with no more tackle than my dad brought when he would take me fishing. This meant no fancy rods, no high end reels spooled with overpriced line, and no tackle bag full of lures. Instead, our weapons of choice were:
1) a 6'6" Bass Pro Micro Lite glass rod paired up with a Daiwa Regal.
2) a 5'0" Shakespeare rod and reel combo for kids.

As for tackle, it doesn't get any simpler than a pack of size 10 baitholder hooks and a pack of 3/0 split shot. Shoved them in my pocket and we were out the door at 9:30a.m. On the way to the lake, we made a stop at this little store off of Ramona to buy some red worms.

Now to the fishing. We decided to hit up the Marina docks and had our lines in the water a little after 10:00a.m. The conditions for today were perfect with clear skies and little to no wind. Surprisingly, there weren't very many people fishing on the docks today. It didn't take long to figure out that the fish were on the bottom in about 10ft. of water. The action pretty much died though at 11:30a.m. We called it a day at 2:30p.m. catching and releasing 7 bluegills, 1 trout, and losing 3 nice 'gills that proved to be too much for our 2lb. test line to handle. Here are some pics of the day.

Now for the family that got evicted. While we were fishing, I noticed a couple park rangers walking down the dock with a raccoon. One of the park rangers was also carrying a cooler. Come to find out the raccoon and it's babies made a home out of a privately owned boat that was docked in the Marina.

lol that's not a leash. I don't know the proper name for it, but animal control uses a tool that resembles a noose at the end of a long pole. The loop at the end is guided over the animals head and then quickly tightened, allowing the animal control officer to remain safely out of reach.

Great report. You taught him a method that he can repeat on his own, perfect. I like to see kids catching bluegill. That's how I started fishing.

The dead guy at the end of the dock put the leash on it!

I does look like a leash.

I'm glad to see that you and your son had some success at the Lake Perris community panfish spot. Good Job!

Good to see lilsocalpanfish getting on the fish. Jr looks like he was having a good time, when is he going to follow dads foot steps and start landing bass?

Wow, that young fella looks about as happy as he can get. Way to go out there. Yah, looks like that coon will have no digs. Im sure he liked the lake front eminities he had before, but will probably have to settle for something a little more in the woods.

Reminds me of days gone by. I once was at Perris and heard some rustling in a dumpster. Looked in, and low and behold two coons were stuck in the dumpsters and couldn't get out. When they saw me they started gwoling and hissing so I wasn't aboutto grab them. Instead I took a tree limb and stuck it in their, sort of diagonally. Left and came back a short time later and the guys were gone. Probably the great, great, great grandmother and grandfather of that family being escorted off the dock.

It was good to see how excited he would get when he saw one of the rod tips bounce from the tell tale sign that a fish was biting. I still remember the time when a couple packs of plastics, some hooks, and a pack of split shot was all I needed to have a good time out on the lake. Now, it seems like I can't go out there with less than 13 different colors of Robo's and a complete arsenal. LOL.

LOL. Yeah, it's one of the better spots on the dock this time of year. That's why I was surprised that there was nobody else there when we first got there. Saturday was a different story, though.

When he gets tired of playing with crickets and red worms, haha. He's landed his fair share of bass.

I don't know how long they were living in the boat, but I'm sure that their new home will not be as comfy. I remember the times when fishing at night at LP was allowed and I would get the occasional raccoon come by and investigate my backpack when would I set it down.
